My favorite threads on the forum are the threads were people are out using their blades in their day to day lives as they were meant to be used. This can be from camping to doing yard work. Well... 9 times out of 10 when I use my blades I do not always have the opportunity to snap a few pics to share with yall. Well today was a little different. On my property there are some trees that need to be taken down because of their roots are beginning to grow way to close for comfort to the houses foundation, and we all know what trouble that can really cause. So in the meantime of completely removing them, I need to limit/stop any damage that can be caused. I have not really had the time to get this done, but today I made time and snapped a few pics along the way.

First I needed to get the root dug out so I could cut it appropriately. A few shovels later I decided it was time to chop. My implement of choice for this was a Truper 3.5 LBS Single Bit Michigan I acquired for next to nothing, on sale, of on sale, of on sale. It has served me very well doing all sorts of splitting/cutting tasks, and I do not mind accidentally sticking it into the dirt... so today its job was initial root removal. I selected the ends as to not completely de-root the tree yet cutoff the problem children. A few chops later, it was severed. Gave it a couple dead smacks to break the dirt/root loose, then pulled it up. Here is the aftermath with the BK9 waiting for its turn.

So now I have this huge root sitting there... what to do... what to do... Chainsaw?? Na... Keep using the Truper? Na! HATCHET??? No... Hmmm I wonder...

Man this BK9 has always amazed with with its chopping ability. Every swing bit deep, and then shortly... one leg amputated.

NEXT!

No sweat...

Tried to grab a pic of the edge, but I think it got shined out...

All in all no damage or change even chopping through the dirt covered root. It was not a considerable amount of chopping or anything but what it did, it did well, and quickly. Had to stop there for the day to go do some different work but next the BK9 will be splitting this sucker up for the woodpile along with a few other roots that need removing, waste not and all. This knife has done a ton of work already for me, and I know that it will continue to do so for a very long time. Thanks for looking.

Damn, those are some big roots! Good thing you dug them up when you did, and good thing you had a BK9 to help!

Lucky, my BK9 is a total slouch, lazy bum, just sits there all day long with BK2 and 4, all of them are laaaaaaaazy!!!! Nothing for me to chop!

Nothing quite like a Becker in it's natural habitat, hunting and taking down its prey.

Nice pics! Thanks for sharing. :)

I mentioned in another thread that I used my 7 for woodwork this morning, getting some wood ready to bring back to the house to prepare & build my woodpile for the winter. Alas, no pics. But it shows how versatile and hardworking this line of knives really is.
