Not to worried for the heat-treat, as I went slow, with lots of cooling oil and rapid breaks... As long as you follow these simple guidlines, there should be no problem with heat. (the hole and drill felt cool to the touch all the way through)

I feel that this is safer than the other lanyard (for me that is), because I always worry about my knife swinging back and hitting me in the elbow or something.
As for falling with the knife: If I`m moving around, I sheath my knife. First thing I learnt, and first thing my kids learnt, if you are walking around or moving with a knife, the sheath is it`s place to be....
I also feel this placement of the lanyard-hole give me a much bigger amount of leverage/impact when chopping. This because the knife is locked into your hand, so that you can swing harder and hit harder...
Ultimate solution for me atleast.
