BK9 in Spec-Ops Brand Sheath?

I have been carrying and using Becker knives for quite some time, and have found proper aftermarket sheathing options for most of them to meet my needs and preferences.

I am looking for something along the lines of the Spec Ops Brand Survival Sheath for my BK9. It is posted as being able to accomodate blade lengths up to 8.5 inches. Does anyone know if that is a conservative spec or if the BK9 will fit? I have had great experiences with Spec Ops and would really like this sheath. Other Spec Ops products have worked beautifully for my BK2 and BK7. I'd rather go with them and this nylon design rather than a custom-made Kydex version, but links to anyone with experience in bending Kydex for a 9 would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Take care, God bless, and have a safe and merry Christmas.

KATN,

Wade

the BK7s are a tight fit in the SpecOps i have... the BK9 would be ... too big. esp TOO WIDE...

Bladite, I just did a slight mod on a Spec-Ops yesterday to make a BK-7 fit better. The issue is the thumb ramp, and a quick dunk of the liner's end in boiling water, followed by a fit of the knife (taped up), remedies this issue.

I took pics, but my Photobucket has maxed for the month. Still debating whether I want to pay for Pro.

Thanks to riz, I got these upgrade sheaths for a song, and I thought I'd post here about the liner mod mentioned above.

The BK-7's thumb ramp is a tight fit, so I did a quick modification as follows...

Remove the liner from the nylon sheath, and dip the end in question into some boiling water. Hold it in for about 30 seconds. BE SURE you have some Krispy Kreme donuts handy.

As soon as you take it out of the water, shove in the knife. I wrap my blades with tape when I do these mods. The liner will shrink just a touch as it cools, so it helps for a better fit if there's a little extra between the liner and the knife. Otherwise, the fit is generally too tight.

The result is a sheath liner fit to the contour of the thumb ramp and a better fit all around.

It was musical theater I think. Show Boat maybe? I'll have to ask Moose. He's the expert on musicals.

i hate those one time performances ;)

Moooose probably got all the pink ones

PM sent. Fits the BK-3, 5, and 7 quite nicely.

Just more FYI...

You can get some pretty thick blades into a Combat Master by modding the liner as above. Along with the ones shown above, I bought a fourth for a Busse NMSFNO (Nuclear Meltdown Special Forces Natural Outlaw... yeah, I know... :p). Anyway, the entire blade was a little too wide, and so I modded the liner by dunking the whole thing and gradually working it onto a taped-up blade. It fits great now. I've seen where someone (mymindisamob, I think) got a Busse Heavy Heart (very thick 8" blade) into a Combat Master sheath by modding the liner similarly.

I wish the bk9 fit, though after I got my sheath and tried I laughed at how ludicrous it was to think it would fit. I forgot just how big the bk9 is compared to most other knives. The Lost Mountain Iron Works sheaths look good, though aren't drop loop. :grumpy:

Contact Charlie and Beth and ask. They might be able to hook you up with some drop-loop action. They've been kind of slow on the Busse special orders (see the thread in Busse titled "Lost Order?"), but I think they just got overwhelmed with orders and only have so much manpower. I'm still waiting on my one sheath from them, but so far, I've noted that everyone who has gotten a Lost Mountain has been really pleased with the quality to price ratio. Just keep in mind that you might have to wait a while for your sheath.

Stinks that they are a bit slow now, though their quality definitely looks top notch. As long as you know it will be a while going in, you should be alright.

I remolded the sheath insert and it fits much better. There is more wiggle room, though if I put it in the sheath at just the right angle, the edge catches the plastic. I am tempted to cut part of it out to eliminate the problem.
