OK. I have the BK7 and Bk9. Just bought the micarta scales for the 7. But I also have the Esee 3, 4, and 6. And while the Ka-Bars have been my goto for many years, the Esee's are becoming very appreciated (I edc an Esee 3 now).
Lately the Junglas has been calling me. I researched and I consider the Junglas is the next step up from the BK9 (the Junglas II seems pretty close to the BK7 and trying not to duplicate). My purpose in a big knife is heavy bushcraft; light camp chores are for the Esee 4 or whatever.
Would appreciate comments please on getting a Junglas vs sticking with the BK9. And not trying to start a Becker/Esee war here. Guess I'm more interested in ease of use, efficiency, doing the job,, etc.
Thanks

I find the BK7 and Junglas II pretty much on par with each other for cutting ability. I give the nod to the Becker however, for handle comfort. Not that the ESEE is uncomfortable - I just like the feel of the Becker dimensions better. I also added aftermarket micarta to mine.

Same with the Junglas vs. BK9.

They are all good knives and perform very similarly to each other.

I had several Beckers first before I added ESEE's into the stable, as well. They compliment each other well.

Thanks Shan45-1911 for comments. I've got some chopping to do and want to split some firewood for my house wood stove. I don't like axes too much and the wood maul is getting heavier now I'm in my 70s. The Junglas at 2" longer blade and about 5oz heavier than the BK9 is interesting.

I have owned several BK9’s and probably 2 dozen Junglas’. For me, the Junglas is far superior.

Better sheath
Better stock handle scales
No useless/cumbersome ramp on back of blade
More nimble in my hands for my uses.

You really can’t go wrong with either, but of the two go with the Junglas!

Yes, the BK9 sheath is OK but like you I really like the Esee sheaths - pull and go vs unsnap and resnap on insertion. I did buy a custom kydex sheath for the BK7 and the micarta black scales help. Both make the BK7 much better.
Haven't thought about the ramp, but again I'll agree that it's pretty much useless on a knife I won't choke up on for delicate work.

Funny this was posted today....

I'm a Beckerhead....... I have a few Esee's too, JUST got my first Junglas This week.....

Honestly, since you already have the BK9, the Junglas isn't That much better.
It is in the same league. It Is probably better, but not by much.

I have large palms.
How are Your hands?

The Junglas is considerably larger in the grip.
Both in length of the grip, and more so in the actual palm swell.

It's probably the largest mass produced grip I have, and I have a ton of knives.
I think it's a little tall in the grip, and I think the scales need to be a smidge thicker? It kinda bites into my hand. Also it has some pinky bite.

I might make some custom scales for it, idk yet?

If you like the way the Becker feels, and you want another big knife.
I whole heartily recommend the SP-53.

I feel after a good sharpening it out chops Both, and is a better battoner.
And Cheaper!!!!

I hope this post continues, let me know if you have any questions?
:)

No real complaints with either. If I were to be forced to pick one it would be the BK9. It's far more comfortable to use for me especially for chopping or batoning. It's better balanced IMO also which makes it fully usable for much smaller tasks, the Junglas not so much. But if the Junglas is calling to you I imagine you won't be completely satisfied until you try one. Either will give you years of service.

Also..... I was like you.
In my head I struggled for Years on what is better, and what I wanted?
Be careful.

I eventually "advanced" to More expensive knives.......
And I'm not really any happier.
I know more, but eventually I decided that I Had to start designing, and making my own knives, as nothing was satisfying my wants.....

My advice is to be Happy with the BK9.
It's awesome, don't go down This road.

The Junglas, or Seigles, or Busse's or customs or whatever, aren't really Any better......... I'm being serious. Serious.

But...... I do like the Ontario SP-53 knife. Alot.
I can't think of anything else that's better for USE regardless of price.

The Becker is more knifey
The Junglas is more slabby.

I did see the larger grip in pix and may have to save my money cause the Esee 6 is about as large of grips that I want. Thanks for mentioning that, Maybe another set of micarta for the BK9 will make me happy

That's the fight isn't it? Getting on a jag about a new knife that almost duplicates what I have.

Personally, I think that's best... New micarta on the 9 will make a world of difference.... Or, steal them from your 7.....haha.

The Junglas feels Huge in the hand, compared to the nine.

Yes, you're absolutely right. And I should know better. In my defense, I'll say in firearms and being an FFL, I went through 30 handguns looking for "the one." But ended up carrying the Glock I started out with, interspersed with 1911s. So, Glocks and Ka-Bars? Sounds good to me. 😁

All similar......
From left to right.

1. Becker BK9 (seax tip)
2. Junglas
3. SP-53
4. LT Wright chopper
5. Siegle
6. David Mary Camp knife
7. SYKCO Alpha Regulator

*I forgot to mention the Alpha Regulator, find/save for one.....it's awesome too.

Crag the Brewer - looking again at the picture says the Junglas grips are way bigger than all the rest. My smaller hands fit my 7/9 just fine.
I think my mind is made up. I just saved $180.:)

The Junglas, and the LT Wright are the biggest.
If your hands are smaller, you won't like the Junglas. Sorry.
And for your future purchases, the Becker's are big too. Compared to most
I wish most knives handles were That size

Please keep use posted on what you get.
And user reviews.

Even though we might already Have the knives, we Still like to see pictures!!!

Will do. Thanks to you and others for great information and help in deciding. Gonna hold off on the Junglas and concentrate on the Becker for now.

I reread this post..... I didn't see your age, and that you mostly wanted to use it for splitting wood for your stove.

Again, I Highly recommend the SP-53.
It's .250" thick blade is one of my best splitters.
And more importantly, the rubber grip is comfy during Battoning.

You would be surprised how much Shock certain knives send into your hand.
I will wrap certain knives with silicone wrap/tape to help

Will do. Pix of the BK7 custom sheath might be interesting.

Junglas. $187.00
BK9. $121.00
Skrama. $ 70.00 ($90.00 with sheath)

Which one chops the best?
