I was just wondering the weight of the BK9 with the separately bought Micarta Handles if their is any difference. I heard Micarta tends to be heavier than most handle materials. Thank you.

it adds an ounce or three.... there is a weight change but its really insignificant vrs the change in actual feel of the knife in hand. I have 10+ Becker knives and all but my 5 and 15 have the micarta scales...the 5 and 15 do not because they are primarially food prep knives and I find the Zytel easier to keep clean.

Someone will come along soon with a set of scales and get you an actual measurement... but really, the weight difference is not even a footnote in the story of how they change the knife. I love em.

Thanks for your input, I don't really mind the weight increase, just really curious overall weight a BK9 would be with micarta scales.

If anyone who has a Bk9 with Micarta scales and a scale can give an accurate weight I would be most appreciative.

OK:
518 grams, or 18.25 ounces with micarta, stainless bolts/locknuts, stripped coating and a bit of steel removed from etching a celtic pattern on one side of the blade.......
vs. 466 grams / 16.375 ounces in it's stock form.

Since NO thread is complete without pictures:

But which is better, micarta or G-10? ;)
(For the record, all mine are stock grivory, except my 5, which I heavily taped the handle side after removing them and then tumbled in a bucket of rough gravel... Cheapest mod ever!)

What's best is barbed wire, as it gives the ULTIMATE grip. Micarta is, like, training wheels....until you build up the required callouses. Grivory® is, like, a tricycle - with training wheels. Seriously, 40 grit traction tape is where it's at....if you ain't man enough for the barbed wire. Just super glue your hand to the scales and quit yer cryin'.

I personally like a combo of roofing tar with thumb tacks sticking out of the grips...
Really locks you in.... ;)

So, uhh, how do you attach the sheath to your pants?
