So I already modded the handles on my BK9 with orange liners made from DVD cases, here are the details in this thread. With that done it was time to strip in naked and get this thing looking mean like my BK2. The supplies I used were a pair of googles, paint tray, plastic scrapper(so I didnt scratch up the steel) Kleen Strip brand sprayable stripper, rubber coated cloth gloves.
You really don't want to get this on your skin and even with these gloves after working on the blade for a bit I could feel it start to seep through. I tried latex gloves and that stuff went though them pretty quick, so these gloves work pretty well but I'm sure there is better.
I put the blade in the paint tray and sprayed it generously with the stripper on both side.
I waited about 15 minutes and got to scrapping with my plastic paint stripper. This blade was a bit harder to get stripped than my BK2 and I had to respray it and let it sit another 15 minutes due to some spots that were stubborn. No pics of the scrapping since my hands were covered in stripper and I wasn't going to get that on my camera. After the second go most of the coating was gone but there were a few small spots that I used a razor on to scrap off. I then used 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper to clean up the grind of the blade but left everything else untouched. I reassembled the handles and here you have it.
Here a few pics of the handle mod. Orange DVD liners and a file taken to the handle to roughen it up a bit to make it grippier.
A of the BK2 and BK9 stripped together.
Even though it was a bit harder than the BK2 to strip it was still really easy and took me about 45 minutes from start to finish. Thanks for looking!
