BK9 or Potbelly?

Depends on a lot of different things, including your intended use. Talk a bit about how you'll be using a big chopper and maybe people will chime in. I don't have a PB and just bought a BK9 but haven't used it yet. I love the Becker handle, so...

Good call - this!

I actually had a thread just like this about two weeks ago (but between the Potbelly and the BK7).

Basically, they are both choppers. The BK9 gives up some mass, but has more blade length. The 9 will also have a few more uses (better draw knife for instance), and in my opinion a more comfortable handle.

I've never seen a chopping comparison between these two knives, but I suspect the 9 would perform a bit better. IIRC the potbelly was designed to be used as a chopper that could fit into small and akward locations that a more traditional large blade would not fit. So, because of this it will out chop most 7in blades, but I'm not sure how it will do compared to the "big boys" like the BK9 and Junglas type blades.

I'm sure you'd be happy with either, but sounds like you've already went ahead with the BK9... so...

Enjoy!

they're both good.

the BK9 has a few years of pedigree and use. it's a big chopper.

the potbelly is newish, and has a good designer :> it's unique i think, and works a treat.

ideally, try both.

realistically, try the one that appeals to you the most.
