BK9 Replacement Sheath

I cannot get enough of becker line knives. They are quality and a good value for the price that you pay. I think they are excellent tools, however i must say the BK9 that I have has one downside and that is the sheath. I hate it. And have for some time now. It rattles around, and gets annoying really fast.

Does anyone have suggestions for a replacement sheath similar to the one it come with (I like the pouch on it), only with a good fit on the blade?

OR does anyone know how to fix it to make that blade snug?

Thanks, Yall.

Welcome to the Becker Forum, and Bladeforums, glad you're here.

Thanks for making us your first post.

You can remove the insert and put it in some boiling water, then form it to the blade tighter. That's what THE GUYON does. Hair dryer or heat gun will work too. Put it back in with some glue around the mouth of the nylon and viola!!! Tighter fit. Or, you could get a custom sheath made, there are several makers here on the forums that would be happy to make you something, for a reasonable price. Check the sheathmakers forum, also, Kiah does some great work. Steelnut, Marion David Proff, CRKS (has them ready to ship), and many more.

Good luck, and stick around, we doin' some great things here.

Thanks for buying Becker.

I've never done the heat and form with a Becker liner, though I don't know why it wouldn't work.
A piece of advice if you use boiling water... Wrap the knife in some tape. I use just plain old packaging tape.
Has nothing to do with protecting the knife, but when the kydex cools, it shrinks a bit, and it can be too tight.
I use some tape to build up the thickness a touch, and then, when the kydex cools, it's just right for the knife.

And don't leave it in the boiling water too long. Start with short intervals and step them up to get the liner at the right pliable consistency.
If you leave it in too long, you can wind up with a stretched-out piece of goo.

Great sheath for the money, but prepare to wait if my experience is any guide.

As Moose points out, you can also check out the ready-made kydex at Chestnut Ridge. Those look pretty good too.

Ill try taking the insert out and adjusting it. Do I need to submerge the whole insert or just the end of it?

And thanks for the great replies and advices.

You can try just the end first and see if that takes care of it.
If not, you can always do it again with the whole liner.

I've have taken the liner out of mine and placed it in the oven and flatened it out. Then refolded the kydex around the blade. Trimm the excess so that it's a snug fit in the sheath. Now it's a nice and snug fit and raddle free. :-D

Did you have a problem getting the liner out? I've had pliers on mine and can't get it to budge. I think I wouldn't mind the sheath too bad if I can stop the rattle..

Take a putty knife or other blunted flat metal object, and slip it between the nylon and the plastic. Wiggle it until adhesive breaks free.

Gotcha. Didn't realize it was glued. On it. Thanks.

Not happening. Even ran the knife (very gently) down front and back. Felt some sticky break loose toward the bottom, but not budging. Weird eh?

Ive got the same problem. I slid a metal ruler down the sides of mine, and then tried to take it out with pliers, and the insert wont budge. :(

and in regards to the Lost Mountain Iron works sheaths, will those fit a BK9? I see that what is closest is 10-11" sheath called the "Footlong." They look like really nice sheaths and would attach well to my current edc/outdoors bag.

They offer at least two different size liners. You have to let them know how thick your knife is.

Fixed. Cut a piece of 9oz. leather to width about 4 inches long. Skived the ends and folded it into a "U" shape. Forced it down to the bottom of the sheath and no rattle. Damn I love this knife!

I got my liner out.

Had to use a chopstick to separate the adhesive from the liner and the sheath. (chopsticks are also great for getting to those d@mn annoying itches under a cast)

There was a tab on the side of the liner that made it difficult to get out of the sheath.

Going to try the "boiling-in-water" technique.

When I replace the liner into the sheath is there any recommended glue I should use? This knife, and sheath, go into the Savannah River once in a while.
