BK9 - safe temperature for the blade? (polishing)

Welcome to the Becker forum Turtles. Glad you're here.

A good rule of thumb, well actually its your lips, :D. If the metal is too hot to touch to your lips, you're getting too warm. Actual temperature? Not sure but I wouldn't want to take it above 120F. Keep some water in a container nearby, and dip it often to keep it cool. I've never seen a blade get that warm during a polish though. I would say you are good to go with it. Grinding on it, is a different story.

Welcome again, and thanks for posting here with us. Stick around, we have some fun here.

Turtles,

The Moose Rule is a good one; If it's too hot for the hand....
The temperature that will affect blade temper is in the 400 degrees farenheit range so if you follow the the Moose Rule you should be okay. However I wouldn't put any hot metal near my lips at any time....Just a personal thing. ;)
Hope this helps.
