I hear lots of people that are unhappy with the stock BK9 (and 5/7) sheath, and while I've been "ok" with mine so far I thought I would see what I could come up with to help improve it.

Basically, the problems that I had with the bk9 sheath was just that it was so dang huge. When I strapped it to my belt, it felt like it took up my whole leg. Also, sitting down with the sheath on caused problems. These are the main things that I tried to address.

I addressed the size first. As it turns out, the stock sheath has some extra superflous length built in. I folded over the ends, and with a few minutes of quick sewing had the sheath shrunk down by about 3 - 4 inches. Folding over the end created a natural belt loop. Sweet.

Length problem solved, as you can see here. It started out about an inch or so smaller then the ZK war sword sheath. And here is a drop leg BK2 sheath for comparison.

Sitting down was a problem though. It rides high enough to stab directly into the chair when you sit down. And the belt loop is inflexible, so it was a pain.

After some brainstorming, I took some nylon webbing, a big button (yep, just a quarter sized button), and a made a belt loop and an attachment to the sheath that the button could attach to.

Results... mixed. It was such a main to connect the belt piece with the button to the sheath that I decided to keep it attached. This solved the inflexibility problem, but introduced a new one. The knife now "swayed" around on my belt. Totally unacceptable. The fix was crude and easy. I looped some paracord around to add some tension to the joint between sheath and beltloop. This solved the problem. No more wobble, but I can still sit down without it interfering.

Check it out.

And there you have it, maybe one of the first BK9 stock sheath mods that you've seen. Hope it helps someone out.
