So I'm looking to drop another bit of cash this week on a new BK&T and my options are the 7 or 9. Can anyone make a convincing argument for either of the two?

Hmm , atleast you didn't suggest something I have. I haven't quite warmed up to the 5 yet though, so at this time it's not an option Bladite.

potbelly?

more to the point, what are you going to intend for it?

Basic camp knife, probably. It'll be used at times to split(baton) firewood, shelter construction , just the usual.

everything i've heard, the 7 is a good all arounder that can chop, the 9 is a good chopper that can do camp chores.
in your case, i'd go with the 7 and a hatchet.

I hate to point it out, but you just missed some good deals on the exchange.

I'd say go w/ the 9 since the 7 is more similar to your 10. You would have a wider array w/ the 9. I do love my 7 though, it ha a great balance.

GOOD point guys ! I'll end up with both eventually I'm sure, but it may be awhile b4 I get to the 7. Slapper, yeah I recently saw a 9 on the exchange by Camillus but wasn't sure how it measures up to the Ka-Bars.

well, from measuring, see the blade database :)

the Camillus is going to be either used, or NIB; no warranty, thicker, heavier, different handles (KaBar's handles are new/different), different sheath

the KaBar is going to be likely NIB ;) unless you find a deal. will have a warranty (unless it's been abused, modified, or other up to KaBar's discretion of course), have the new handles, and a sheath that can hold a BK13 (not probably will NOT come with the BK13, and certainly not the new american made one)

some people want that thicker blade.

chances are in either case, if you use it well, and don't abuse it, esp with incorrect batoning (snerk) [1], it will last a lifetime, so the warranty is kinda moot.

[1] seems a lot of people are batoning poorly lately, and breaking stuff. baton good clean wood with good technique? sure. baton through something you know to be infested with knots, and force the issue? breakage happens. this is not a surprise ;) [just noting it, not blaming anyone in particular (moose ;>)]

Yeah, I'm a little slow on the draw, I checked the database about 5min before your post Bladite. I hate to let a Camillus pass me by, but the Ka-Bars are excellent also.

had one of those Camillus BK9's back a couple months ago. The weight and thickness is so different that i'd consider them to be two different blades. Unfortunately My good Broheim needed it, so off it went.
