That "homemade monster" is quite the big blade. I'd like to get a big chopper 1/2" thick. That's double the thickness of the BK2 which i thought was thick. What kind of Uddeholm steel did you say it was made from? I've used Sleipner that's made by Uddeholm i believe and thought it's a fantastic steel. Have a BK9 coming tomarrow. Can't wait to test it on some stuff.

Steel is called "ARNE" it is a tool steel used for Heavy cutting machinery...

Do you know of a steel it's compared too? Sleipner is a more advanced version of D2 i believe. Had a Lionsteel SR2a with Sleipner. Loved the steel didn't care for the grip or blade shape really either. Might get a DPX HEST F in Sleipner. Have the HEST in German D2 and it's a great knife and steel. Never heard of the ARNE.

I don`t really know, but I know someone/somewhere in here posted a list of steels, they Call the steel different names in europe than you do in the US...
I checked their website, and it Equals to O1 steel actually...

SRWeldon, that thing is entirely home ground from a bar of half inch steel, in my garage....
Hardened by a blacksmith I know and tempered by me in the Kitchen oven at home..
Handle ground out of a mosse antler in the garage (Da.. that sh.. smells like burned something I can`t say here)

Cool knife and all......seemed to break the log more than cut and chop though. Reminds me of a Busskin. Maybe too obtuse to really be functional. I'll stick with my 9.

nice to see someone else who chops with the propper hand!
good looking knife, looks like it takes the same kind of big bites a TM Hunt M18 does.

It's not so optuse, I make feathersticks with it no problem. But I think that piece of wood was a little on the thin side, because it felt a little springy when chopping, that blade likes it more when you throw bigger things at it....
Anyway, chop it of break it of. I had fun and ended up with smaller pieces of wood.
Mission accomplished, lol...

Wow.....That thing is a beast!!!!!!!...... A Knife reborn as a hand sledge....LOL...... Do you have another one?........
Looks to have been a good time!!!!......

Ethan

Unfortunately only one made Ethan, lol...
But I'm pretty sure there will be more pics and videos of it in action later next week.
We are building a 2*4 rig for chopping contests, so I guess our chopping comparison videos have to be copied with those materials instead or the seasoned birch from these vids....
Good times when one can make small pieces of wood out of bigger pieces...

there is an Iphone app, maybe Android has it too called Knife Steel Chart from zknives.com

It has a search function with a huge steel database. US and other steels as well.

ARNE is equivalent of O1 tool steel.

Thank you TDHurl.
That is actually very helpful, since I often wonder about what types of steel you guys talk about...
