BK9 vs. Junglas

Can anyone tell me the real differences in performance of the BK9 and Junglas? I own a Junglas and I love it...and I've been eyeing a BK9 for quite some time...I just need a reason to drop the coin on it because I would definitely want Micarta scales and a useable set of pants for it.

Please help me spend money I shouldn't.

I have both... It really depends on what the primary use is for, in my opinion...

The Junglas is a BIG blade. It's a great chopper and batoner... but that's where it kind of ends its useful life. It's just too unweildy for small knife work.

The BK9 feels more like a big knife, rather than a short sword or machete like the Junglas. It's got power to do good with chopping and batoning... albeit not QUITE as good as the Junglas. It is more controllable for general purpose knife tasks than the junglas.

The BK9 would be a better one knife solution... the Junglas does better at dedicated chopping tasks... They are similar.. but they fill different roles.. at least for me...

Yar, me loves some Junglas. So far to date, I've owned 3. Them knives are some kind of awesome, and a chopping demon.

I simply love mine, but then again, I love Rowen's attention to detail. And I love big ass knives.

How is the Junglas different from a BK9? Well, there are a few differences, to be sure.

1) The Junglas out chops the Bk9 hands down. No way around it, since its longer, and heavier, it will simply chop through the same media faster.
2) The BK9 is a knife, the Jungals is a machete. Says so in the name. The Rc on the BK9 has an RC of about 58-59, the Junglas, around 55 if memory serves.
3) The Junglas has a very forward balance, thus lending it to be a better chopper, the BK9 has a blade weighted balance as well, just not as much, making it easier to use in a tradition knife perspective

I look at it like this, if you want a chopper than can act like a knife occasionally, the Junglas is your blade

If you want a knife that can act like a chopper when you need it to, the BK9 is your knife.

I own both, and love both, making them blades of a different color.

The Junglas comes with micarta and a kydex sheath, should you so buy one with it, the BK9 comes with grivory and nylon, if you want to upgrade to micarta and kydex, look to spend another $100 or so.

Hope this helps.

Moose it the nail on the head as always. I think most guys on here who have 9s also have the Junglas. At least it seems that way

I had both. Sold the Junglas because while it chops well that is where it seemed to dominate. The BK9 can chop very well too but feels light in the hand despite the size. Works well as overall camp style knife also. I even use it in the kitchen to cup up stuff like acorn squash which can be tough.

The junglas is cool for all the reasons Moose mentioned. But its a one trick pony next to the 9.

I love the BK9 and then I acquired a Junglas off some tool. I love all my little knife children equally though.

The junglas appears to be more of what I'm looking for which is a short chopper.
The nine looks great, but I'm Savin up for the junglas.
This was a great thread.
Thanks

Dedicated chopper = Junglas by far
Over all big knife = I would say the BK9 edges it out slightly due to a more neutral balance.

I find the Becker handle far superior to the junglas handle, even with inferior material (though micarta handles are really available). The contouring and roundness just mold to the hand, whereas the wide, flat handle of the junglas can feel like gripping a small wooden plank.

Excuse my ignorance But I have never held a Junglas, But seems most folks Think it would be the best Chopper if you needed only a big chopper,
But it only has a 1 inch longer blade which is I believe saber ground ( I don't really care for saber ground). With 1095 steel.
So what I'm I missing ? Is it heavier/thicker or just personal opinion. I'd really like to know because just reading about them I don't believe I'd need one since I have the bk9,,,,, Appreciate all answers, maybe I just need to hold one in person.
Thanks P.S don't think I'm hijacking the op thread as looks like he's going with the Junglas.

Isn't the Junglas pronounced different then spelling kinda like whoglas or yunglas:confused:
I may well be wrong I am a lot:)

The name is pronounced "HOON-glas." It's Spanish. The knife was designed for a Colombian Special Forces brigade of the same name.
