OK, here we go...
Of these two blades which would you prefer?
Fairly similar design (heavy choppers), but BK9 is significantly more expensive...
Is the BK9 worth it? What does it have over the Heavy Bowie?

Thanks!

there isnt much price difference, I've seen the BK9 for $70 and the Kabar for around $50...and the BK9 has an additional knife and scabbard/handle more orientated towards camp and survival use with replaceable handle which appeals to many and have seen the inside of the handle used to keep survival gear.

I personally would rather the BK9, it has more spine to it and seems more solid for a camp application...comes down to personal needs.

They both work well. The Heavy Bowie feels cheaper with the kraton handle, in my opinion. I have both and have been pleased with both when playing around in the woods. If I could only have one I'd choose the BK9.

the BK9 also comes with the little BK13...ive found that little knife to be suprisingly handy to have around

The sheath of the HB is...not the best sheath. The one from the BK-9 isn't a beauty either, but it works pretty good. The HB is a little lighter, the BK-9 is a more serious chopper, but in the end it maybe just personal preference that really makes a difference.

The BK9 is made in Olean, NY, while the Heavy Bowie is made in Taiwan, if that means anything to you. Not making a statement on quality, only country of origin. Keep our boys workin'!

I bought a HB to modify. I'm putting a stacked leather handle on it with a brass guard. My first stacked leather handle. I have both knives and like them both. I prefer the BK9, but am very happy with my Heavy bowie and the big sleeper, the chopping beast, The cutlass machete. :D

In my opinion the BK9 has a more comfortable handle and a full, contoured tang which gives a stronger construction. The tang also extends beyond the handle scales providing a good surface for hammering (hammering with or hammering on), thus giving even more versatility to the knife.

I have both and Like the becker a little bit more. But I love the blade shape on the Heavy Bowie. Put that blade on the becker's handle with a full 1/4" thickness....man i would buy 2 or 3.

This would make all the difference to me. I could ramble on about my feelings on the topic but will spare all of you (and myself a slapping from the mod). KA-BAR is a great company any way you look at it, and Toooj, you know I mean that. I would pay double for the same exact knife made here in the states if it came down to it, and I make a modest living.

Sorry for the off topic. On topic, I would prefer the BK-9 regardless.

I was trying to decide between these 2 a while back and went with the BK-9. It has performed great but I still need to get a kydex sheath for it and either make my own scales or buy the Micarta scales for it. It's a great knife for the price.
