I did a video for fun. Its not scientific its just for fun. Sorry in advance for vid quality. I dropped my cam and it
isnt working right. I figured this out after a couple of vids I did.

Thanks for sharing bro. You know I've never been a fan of the TM. To me, and this is just my opinion, it doesn't look functional. More like a display case sort of knife. A lot of those bowie type blades do as well. Especially that 'thing' Mick Dundee has, you know, ''That's not a knife, this is a knife". Urgh. No. That's a $12 piece of shit you buy from a carney at a show. The BK9 however, now that's a f**king knife..

Hey FL, what sort of wood is that you were hacking at? It looks like it has some sort of milk sap. The trees we have over her in Aus that have sap like that are reasonably soft (Fig Trees etc). That wood looked pretty hard. Given, it was a thick log but it looked pretty hard to me.

Hey you should do a couple more comparison vids of those two. Some close up work, log splitting, etc. Might turn into a bit of a showdown. My money will always be in the Nine though. Killer of a blade that one. Onya bud..

Interesting results. Thanks for sharing. My results were just the opposite in comparing the two knives. As much as I like the BK9, it was always outperformed by the Trail Master in every way.

The TM seems like a decent blade - I've handled and, ah, re-handled one (actually put a new Micarta handle on one) but the cylindrical shape of the grip and the big double guard just don't do it for me for a general purpose woods knife. After clearing the idea with the owner of the TM, I put a hatchet style handle on it. Felt WAY better in my hand that way....but that big brass guard makes closeup/fine work nearly impossible for me. I'd rather carry a 9 and have the fine work be a little cumbersome rather than fight my equipment. For pure chopping, the TM seems like it'd be OK - but I don't care for the lack of handle shape/pinky hook. Not having used one, mind you, this is some speculation on my part - but I own a few choppers (not just Beckers) and I have a feel for what works (for me, at least) as far as handle shapes go. I do have a CS SRK that I like, but it's not for chopping.

Thanks for the comparison vid, FL.

My rendition (within limits of tang shape and size) of what I'd like to see the TM handle look like:

I like your TM. The handle definitely is the worst part about the knife. In another vid I chopped on some heat treated 2x4 and the TM did a little better.
After this test the trailmaster was still sharp and my homemade convex grind was dull on the BK9.
Right know It 1 and 1 with TM Vs BK9. I intend to do more challenges or comparisons.
The tree was a giant rubber tree. Its very sappy. Its kinda hard on the inside but I guess I would thinks its soft wood if I had to guess.
Its in a small patch of woods by my place. I will do some better tests in the future.
