ups just delivered my junglas so here's a side by side pics with the bk9. first, as with all the esee knives i have, the fit and finish are superb! my crappy pics aren't doing it justice but i'm too tired from hiking all day today to try to take pretty pics. good thing this group cares more about function than form. anyways, the pics...

bk9_junglas_01.jpg

in case anyone is wondering, i used a sharpie to color the micarta black. it shipped with the standard micarta color.

the grid background is 1" square for size perspective but notice in some pics it looks warped. that's because i didn't store it properly flat.

my first impressions are the complete opposite of what i was expecting! i was expecting the junglas to be a lot like the bk9...well, only bigger. in my humble opinion they are very different knives, just about the only thing they have in common is that they're both finished in black and have a very sharp edge.

okay, this may sound weird but hang in there. the bk9 to me feels like a scaled up knife whereas the junglas feels like a scaled down machete. when i hold the bk9 i feel that deep urge to chop down some massive wood :D ...with the junglas i feel like chopping apart terrorists, rapists, and child molesters. it has that dark side of the force emanating from it.
i warned you guys it'll sound weird.

since a lot of guys/gal(s?) here have guns here's another analogy. if you want to maintain the peace you grab an ar-15 (in this case the bk9). but if you want to start a revolution, you grab an ak-47 (in this case the junglas).

okay, enough of my crappy analogies! i'm a programmer and i've had a few sips of bourbon so i tend to blabber on and on :o

bk9_junglas_05.jpg

oh geez. i didn't think it's possible but now i really hate the bk9's sheath even more...argh!

bk9_junglas_06.jpg

...in summary, i'm ditching the rest of my knives and i'll have to figure out how to wear the bk9 on my neck and the junglas on my waist without attracting too much unwanted attention. lol.

Great pics:thumbup:

Have you Sharpied many knife handles? I'd think it would come off and turn your hands black (or blue) if you got wet..

I like seeing them side by side. The Junglas looks like a real beast.

i sharpied my esee 3, 4 & 5 before i got the junglas. as for the ink bleeding, it does but it's barely noticeable. with a dry paper towel and dry scales i can rub the two against each other very hard and the paper towel stays white.

with one of them wet it's noticeable. i did wipe my wet rc-3 with a wet t-shirt once but the ink didn't stick after tossing it in the washing machine. when the scales on my knives get wet it's usually covered in fish guts/blood or mud anyway so it's a toss up. i'm too lazy to dye them properly with rit :o

How well is the Sharpie going to hold up? That was a suggestion in my dying micarta thread and I'm curious.

I don't see it staying on as well as a dye (and I'm not sure how well that will do either), so I'm curious to see if your hand turns black after the first time you use it and get the handle wet.

Whatever the case, it looks like the Sharpie did a good job of covering the micarta. Did any of it soak in, or is it all on the surface?

Great pics. Have fun with the junglas but keep the bad neighbourhood kids in one piece.

it's soaked in there pretty well. i've beaten the crap outta my rc-5 for about a month now and i have yet to touch it up. in my case the bleeding is minor. it won't stick anyway. after a few wet/dry cycles it'll gradually stop.

rit dye is still better than sharpie since it'll "cure". mind you i separate socks & t-shirts treated with rit dye for a few wash cycles before i toss them in with the normal laundry...usually 3-4 wash cycles is enough.

there's a thread on ar15.com regarding using rit dye on pmags as well and this guy showed that even with the hard plastic it penetrated pretty well. micarta is much more porous than the pmag. let me know if you'd like me to dig up the thread for you.

thanks. most of my neighbors are in their 40s and over. at 31, i'm considered the bad kid in the block :p

Sure, send it on over. You can PM if you'd like so as to not clutter this thread any more than it already is (sorry).

nah. we get quite a few rit dye questions from others too so that's okay. here's the thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=17&t=484089

side note: i tried liquid rit dye on the rc-3's clip plate and nothing stuck. i mean nothing so it doesn't always work on plastics. use a stainless tong and pot so you won't get in trouble with the wifey/gf!

Good job on the review. Been waiting to see the BK9 and Junglas compared side by side. The Junglas sheath sure has it all over the one that comes with the BK9.

Glad to see them side by side
I really like Becker as well, hard use stuff there as well
Junglas is Awesome ! Knife & Sheath wise

it hit me while i was...um...fondling...i mean chopping wood with them today. the junglas sheath freaking fits the bk9 like it was made for it...sweetness!

bk9_junglas_sheath_02.jpg

the only clue to others that it's not it's original sheath is it's longer than needed. other than that, it looks factory finished.

bk9_junglas_sheath_01.jpg

...even the opening is perfectly contoured for a tight snap. no need for the handle strap/molle backing if you want.

bk9_junglas_sheath_03.jpg

i was determined to find a sheath maker to custom design a kydex sheath for the bk9 - basically mirroring that of the esee sheaths. it would've been a huge headache but i was willing to put up with it but then esee/rowen comes through again! man, i love this company.

Pure schweetness! Mucho thanks for sharing!
