Black blade look dodgy?

Hi everyone! I have my 18th birthday coming up soon and intend on buying a Spyderco Delica 4 Blackblade Folder (http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=334) to use as an EDC for occasional box cutting at 2 of my jobs, food preparation every now and then and largely self-defense.

I can see myself being pulled over and asked about the knife sometime seeing as I live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia, and they are really cracking down on violence and concealed weapons due to common attacks at night.

Although the blade is under 3" and I have a legitimate excuse(wouldn't tell a cop SD), would having a black blade which is usually used so it isn't seen at night make it look dodgy? I like the look of the solid black knife which is why I'm buying it but if it's just going to bring possible grief I'm considering a plain blade instead.

Your opinions?

My opinion...

How your knife is percieved by an LEO will depend more on the situation in which you are in that caused you to relinquish or show your knife to an LEO. You attitude during your interactions during your encounter will also play a large role in your overall experience.

That being said - blade size and design does have a factor (ie. large karambit) when it is a non-typical, non-sheeple type design. The Spyderco, even with a black blade, looks like a normal pocket knife.

I must say that I am American and live in America so I am not familiar with the culture or Law Enforcement in your country.

Take care.

Maybe someone from down under will stop in and give some advice:thumbup:
As a self defense weapon a knife would appear to be effective only if you are trained to use it for that purpose, that being said any knife in a bad situation is better than nothing. I dont own a spyderco but they come highly recommended and have heard nothing but great things about them.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. IVANKERLEY, that is true and luckily enough I've spent 2 years, so far, training the Filipino Martial Art of Arnis which specializes in stick, knife and empty-hand fighting :D Anyone else?

IMO the Delica is a good choise. If a black blade looks more sinister to LE in your opinion, then get the regular blade - no performance difference.

If you envision using a blade for self defense, save some money and get some combatives knife training from a reputable trainer.
