Sorry if it was asked before, I couldn't find any exact info on Benchmade website.

What kind of coating I am getting if I choose "black" blade finish on Custom Builder?
DLC I guess(?) If it is not DLC - how durable is this coating?

Thanks

The Coatings used in the Custom Shop are Cerekote, that is per Benchmade.

It should hold up OK for most uses, EDC tasks. If your going to do more rigorous cutting on things I would suggest going with the satin, unless you like the look of honest wear.

^^^Yes that's what I thought as well. If Benchmade does use DLC, they typically mention it in the description. However, that may be subject to change at any time.

@Benchmade is it possible for you to share what kind of HV toughness we are talking in case of Cerakote?

Not sure about Benchmade, but if they follow the certified process for applying cerakote it can reach a maximum hardness of 9h. My experience from applications in the firearms industry.

It's not a coating designed to protect from impacts, although it handles them pretty well. It is designed as a corrosion protectant.
