Hello,

I'm in the market for new folder. 3-3 1/2 black bladed knife. I'm looking for something realtively inexpensive. Also, does anyone know if Spyderco made a black bladed Delica with an FRN handle?

Thank you,

-Dave

I wouldn't recomment a black blade for EDC, too tactical, too mall ninja.

(Read: Scray for non-knife nuts)

I have a Camillus Heat with a black blade, if it was to do again, I would get a satin.

But to answer. Military, Native and a few Bydrs are made with black blade.

Hey, if you want a black blade, go for it. Who cares what Mildred at the the shopping mall thinks.

I recently posted this at edcforums.com:

"Once when I was a civilian contractor with a government spy agency, I was required to extract the kidnapped British Ambassador to Isreal from the clutches of Hezbollah terrorists in Syria. I cannot go into details, but as the extraction was underway I used the black coating on my LM Wave to diffract the intense beam of a laser rangefinder that was aimed at our Blackhawk helicopter. The SAM-7 missile was not able to obtain a lock on our airship as well departed from the Hezbollah compound, and we were able to duck behind some mangrove trees as we sped toward the coastline and the waiting Navy frigate some 12 nautical miles offshore. The Wave saved not only the mission, but the life of the British Ambassador. It resulted in our obtaining the secret plans of an Iranian nuclear reactor, and changed the course of Middle East diplomacy.

In the alternative, the black coating is just sorta cool looking. I'm not sure which."

I have a coated Fallkniven WM1 in my EDC box. Or it was black, now it is sharpened and the black goes away :)
I also have a black LM Fuse. Why black, you dont work with "tactical" stuff. Yes, because it is different from the cheap knock offs you buy for 10 bucks at the car parts shop.

How 'bout a black Kershaw Vapor II? Not tactical at all and a pretty decent knife for $30. Frame lock, nice size. I got one just for grins and it surprised me how good it was.

Spyderco did make a black ti coated blade for the Endura & Delica but they were discontinued. The black blade Endura I have has the FRN molded clip also.So I think it was 2nd generation.I still like that plastic clip even though it can't be moved like the new ones.It never scrathed or ripped anything like the metal clips can.

I have a black coated plain edged FRN Delica with metal clip I picked up cheap at a gunshow. Nice knife, but not nitrate coated, looks more like a baked on finish.
But I end up edc'ing my 15 year old Delica instead because I also like that moulded clip. I like the way it fills the palm, even though the Delica's thinness was one of it's attractions to me. Knife still locks rock solid after all these years too.
Cheers

Black Al Mar Mini SERE. Might be on the high end of "relatively inexpensive" but I do carry mine quite frequently...

Be choosy about how the blade is made black. Ti hardcoats are about the only thing that stays on the blade and resists normal wear and tear. Most all applied paints, "guncotes," teflons, etc will wear off because most things we cut will dull a knife at RC60. Dirt, cardboard, etc., eat up lesser finishes.

Thanks guys!! This forum is great! lol I'm narrowing it down to the black Delica or the Vapor II. I think I'm leaning towards the Delica because my EDC has been the white handle sprint run Delica. I love Spydies!

You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't consider the CRKT M16-13 and the HK Ally. Both are extremely great knives. The latter has a glass breaker and is ultra-thin. The former is a beast that have survived EVERYTHING I've thrown at it.

P.S. And you can't go wrong with the Leek... serrated especially.
