Hi!

Sal, I know you are working on black clips for the Military (or I think I know

). From the image of the Starmate on your www page it seems that the clip is identical to the Military clip. Am I right?

If they are identical, then the black clip for Military can be used for the Starmate also, right?

The was also talk about black screws for the clip. You then responded that it would be hard to make black coating for the screws, but haven't you already done that? I saw an image of Calypso from the back and it seams to have black screws (or is the image just bad, so it seems that they are black?). To me it isn't such a big deal if the pivot pin in the middle is not black, as I could always unscrew the clip and put something black in between the handle and the clip covering the pivot pin. So if you already have black screws those are going to be in the black clip kit also, right? And if the black screws don't hold the color, then it's not that big of a deal.

By the way, you already had black clips on models like Delica'98 and Endura'98... why can't you use the same materials for the black clips to the Military (and the Starmate also!!!)

Bye,
Harri.

Just got a Calypso, and my sweetie got a Junior. Oddly, the clip screws on both are coated in an O.D. green paint that comes off very easily. Not really a problem, just kinda strange. I think they're a size larger (2-56?) than the screws on the metal-handled models (1-72?) as well. I guess that's to give them more area on the tapped Micarta...

My Calypso Jr. came with black clip and more or less black screws. The screws stayed black for about 3 weeks I think. They are still black down in the screwdriver cross slot. The clip has held up very well though.

Military clips and Starmate clips are not the same. They are both purpose built for the model. They will both be coated with the same coating and we have also coated the screws with the same coating. We'll see how they hold up? We are currently testing a number of coatings for clips.

Sal -- why not use the black coating you use on the Endura 98, Delica 98 and other existing black clipped Spydies?

Sal, I for one love the clip that you use on the military. I like silver clips better. True a black clip might hide better with dark pants, but a black clip really sticks out with light colored pants. Also the black clips scratch easily and the black comes off. I think the silver looks alot better. If people are concerned with a subdued clip, they can get shrink tubing from the hardware store. Put it around the clip, heat it with a hair dryer, and you have a black rubber like surface that also protects things you lean against from getting scratched. I have done this on several knives that I wear with dark clothes, in the fall and winter of course.

shootist16,

I've also put some shrink tubing on my shiny clips with some success. I did encounter some problems with this solution however. The tubing provides quite a slick surface that allows the knife to slip up in the pocket - sometimes out of the pocket! Have you ever experienced this? Also the tubing wears out after a few months.

Regardless it is a viable option, just not a perfect solution.

I havent had the problem with the tubing being slick. I can see however that it could wear. But it works pretty good and its a cheap, easy fix.
