Hi all,

My first Topic in this forum and i just haveta ask questions.

I bought my first Storm II back in 2004, i think shortly after they became available at the big box store, a friend showed me one he just bought and i had to have one,cuz they just looked so darn kewl and their design and functionalty intrigued the crap outta me. It has been my main EDC knife ever since. Best looking, sharp outta the box and bang for a buck on the market, IMHO.

1) I have one with the torx part of the screws all chewed out of it by the previous owner, i have the box and paperwork......is there any way i can get new screws or have them replaced?

I did find a couple of threads here about these Black coated Storms, but the only thing i found out is that "a few boutique runs" were made. I love the looks of these black ones.

Sooo, I haveta ask youz guys here and hopefully Thomas:

2) How many were made, as near as you can tell me?

3)What exactly is the coating as i've seen several sites listing different coatings?

4) Does this coating scratch off easily?( yes i read the disclaimer about scratching being normal wear and tear)

5) Will the Storm II ever be offered with this type of coating, i for one hope that you will at least consider it.

As far as i'm concerned, i'm a kershaw fan for life and happen to love the Ken Onion designs.

Keep up the great work in giving us Budget-deprived folks here something to love and EDC....Kudo's to ya!!!

Hey Karda, welcome to the Kershaw forum!

I've got a few of the Storm II's and for the price they are great knives.

As for your questions, you might want to call Kershaw 800-325-2891, ask for Dawn, and tell her your situation. Knowing their reputation for customer service, it wouldn't surprise me if they offer to fix it if you'll send it in.

Not too sure how many of the 1470BLK Storms were made, but as for the color, the handle is anodized black, and the blade is tungsten DLC coated. The handle may show some signs of wear, just like the black clips do after time. As for the blade, the DLC is very tough stuff. If you cut something and it leaves a mark on the blade, most likely it is the material you cut left there. A good cleaning with CLP Break Free, a Tuff Glide cloth or even WD-40 should clean it up nicely.

I don't think the Storm II will be done this way, but you never know! I did some tinkering with a II using a cold blue treatment, and the knife turned out very nice! So nice my son saw it, and I've only seen it once since then, when it needed sharpening. The cold blue has held up extremely well, and gives the knife a very neat appearance!

If you want some additional info on the black Storm, take a look here. These guys have great prices and I've been very satisfied when ordering from them before.

If you're looking for a great SpeedSafe assisted Kershaw on a budget, SMKW is offering the Mini Cyclones for $ 25 and the full sized ones for $ 29. This is a fantastic deal!

Again, welcome, and hang around! Just watch out for that Offsetlover guy...:D

Thanx for the info and the warm welcome SPXTrader!

I'll haveta call Dawn i guess and see what she sez, i was just wondering about the 2nd owner aspect of it and didnt want to bother anyone until i had some sort of answer here. I'm just glad i rescued this one from it's former owner, I've never had to use Kershaw's Awesome Customer service, but i guess this knife could use a good tuneup and sharpening. soooo.

As for the Cold Blue thing.....now yer givin me idears there son!!
Is it similar to/what ya put on Gun barrels and such?
Does it look close to Black?
I'd like to see a pic of it if ya ever wrestle it away from your son.

speaking of sons, i showed my new 1470BLK to my son and now he wants one for his birthday....LOL!

I'll haveta look into those cyclone's, but i live in upstate NY and have been shying away from assisted openers, really. I would rather spend my money on khuk's and knives, instead of paying fines, and even around here if ya happen to let a LEO catch a glimpse of your Storm II when he's having a bad day.....you could end up with a big pain in the A-55

Thanks again for the info.... i'm gonna check that link and see how i can talk the little woman into justifyin' takin in a few more sharp pointy things that need a good home. PEACE!!!

Give Dawn a call. Kershaw's warranties are on the knives, not the owner! However, they may show some discretion on how the knife has been treated (read abused). I don't think your case falls under these circumstances. You should be good to go!

As for the bluing, yup, the same cold blue treatment you would give a gun for a quick touch-up of a rust spot. I gave it 4 treatments, and the blade turned out a beautiful deep blue. The aluminum handles weren't as receptive to the chemicals as the blade, and they turned a light denim color. All in all it turned out really nice. Someone else around here did a chemical etch...called it "Nuked"...don't remember who, but it looked nice, too.

Sons are fun (and expensive) aren't they? My boy is a professional chef, so all my really good Shuns have gone bye-bye. I get to visit with them when they need sharpening, tho!

As for the Cyclones, the neat thing about them is there is an On/Off switch for the SpeedSafe. Turn it off and it acts like a regular flipper. The ball and detent are strong enough that its extremely hard to shake the blade loose. You have to put some effort into it to make it open, but using the spine flipper, they'll snap open every time!

Good luck in your future Kershaw ventures, and let us know what you end up with next!

Nah, the knife itself is fine except for a tiny chip or two on the cutting edge and the center torx part of all the screws,it looks like the guy used a screwdriver to take this apart.

I'm not sure i'd like a blue storm, although with it being light denim it might blend in with my bluejeans better and keep the sheeples and such from being a hassle...LOL.

Yeah, kids are great, but mine isnt 1/2 the problem to me that i was to my parents.(GRTS"s)
I dont think i coulda got a better one if i special ordered him.

I've been gonna check out vids on the speedsafe deal, but i kinda like the little flipper thing on the storms and the fact that there is no mechanism to have to explain to the law.

I have been eyein' the groove lately, something about that thing catches my eye...i think its the shape as the boa and bump have been doing the same. I did see a vid about the ET also.... but i find that it's a little too on the ugly side for my tastes, but the toggle thing looks really cool to play with.

sure i'll be around to let you guys know what else i get to replace my trusty storm and storm II's......if i ever do.

thanks again man!!!!
