Does anyone have experience with the newer version, black coated Cold Steel Trailmaster??? They seem to be offering the Carbon V Trailmaster only in the coated version now and I haven't seen much feedback on this coated version. Carbon V steel has gotten some good reviews in the past and I was wondering if anyone knows if the more recent knives made of USA Carbon V is as good as their "older" knives. Does anyone know if Cold Steel has kept up the same quality control of their Carbon V steel? I appreciate the help and feedback. Thanks in advance.

This is pure speculation on my part, it is just that the new black coated ones are selling for less than the old satin finished ones. This means that most likely the blades do not receive the same level of finishing and are just covered up with the coating. There are many production companies that practice this approach and then make their customers think they are doing them a big favor. Seems to work too. Performance should not be compromised however, and they are still a very serious tool for $100.

I got one and love it. Seems to keep up with my Simonich at a much lower price. The sheath sucks, but I got an Eagle Industries sheath, or you could have Eric from On-Scene make you a better one.
