Black coating on Fallkniven knives.....how tough

I want to buy a Fallkniven WM-1 knife when I go canoing, hiking, fishing, etc but I cannot decide between the black blade or stainless one. I sort of like the black blade but I just want to know how tough the black finish is. I know the blade finish will wear out on hard-use knives but I would hate to have a thoroughly scratched blade right away. Anyone out there have any experience with Fallkniven black blades? What do you recommend? Thanks in advance for your input.

I felt the same way about the black. My A-1 has the black coating and has held up very well. It does get kind of a "waxy look" scratch or smudge after cutting wood, but the coating is intact. I would reccommend it.

I haven't used my Fallkniven F1 extensively yet, but the coating seems to be about as good as the teflon bt2 coating on Benchmades.
I've cut wood and yes, it does get a sort of waxy look. The teflon smooths out over time much like the Benchmade 710BT I had.
Once you use it a lot, teflon coatings wear nice and smooth and scratches arent as noticeable as they would be on a new knife.

I have an A1 with the black finish. It does seem to be as good as any other coating, but the only reason I bought one with the coated blade was because I got a good deal on it. Otherwise, with VG-10 I wouldn't really need the blade coating.

My uncoated F1 now has myriad little scratches but not a blemish of rust after a year of use, and I appreciate them as much as the mottled stains on my carbon blades. VG-10 is the best stainless I've come across, highly corrosion resistant, takes and holds an edge as good as any high carbon steel (IMHO) and has a 'bite' to it I haven't seen in other stainless steels.
