Wondering if black coatings on blades pose any health concerns for cutting food? Coating examples I've come across include tungsten DLC and titanium-nitride. Thanks for your input.

i was wondering the same thing myself but more of the wrinkle finish type coatings holding bacteria even after the blade was wiped off. welcome to the forum

No issues for TiN coatings or Tungsten DLC. Those coatings are inorganic and inert. They will withstand organic acids and alkalies found in food indefinitely.

Epoxy no issue either. Once it is fully cured it also is pretty inert.

Bacteria in wrinkles I suppose could be a problem. But that is an issue of cleanliness rather than an issue of the coating itself. I'd want to do more than just wipe the blade.

Dymon-iC™ DLC coating
Dymon-iC™ is a diamond-like carbon, DLC coating that offers exceptional tribiological properties in comparison to conventional DLC coatings. The coating is deposited using a hybrid PVD / PACVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition) process.

Don't know for sure what tribiological properties are, but the Dymon-iC DLC coating has them.:)

Not true. You did not read the citation correctly. Lubrication is only a small part of it.
Tribology is the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion. It includes the study and application of the principles of friction, lubrication and wear. The word "tribology" derives from the Greek τρίβω ("tribo") meaning "(Ι) rub" (root τριβ-), and λόγος ("logos") meaning 'principle or logic'.
Tribology is the study of the effects of surfaces rubbing together.

Yes yes, I figured lubrication would be a short and simple answer, which is why I stuffed the wiki link there for the rest of the story. Everyone's a critic these days :p
