Looked around a little online a month or so ago and this one got really good reviews everywhere I looked. Impossible to find it in stores, so I had to go with the free Super Saver shipping on that one site.
If you're in the market for a new weed whacker, GET THIS ONE.
-automatically advances the string, no need to manually advance it by hand or by tapping the head on the ground
-battery charges in about an hour and has a button that displays how much life is left
-lightweight and very manageable
-conveniently placed speed control, so you can turn it down to 2 or 3 for light work, up to 5 or 6 for thicker stuff.Lower settings save battery life.

I just got the matching hedge trimmer, so now I have two batteries. There's no stopping me now!!

After seeing my Stihl mow throw some PVC pipe like it was paper, I think I'll be sticking to their brand for now ;)

Have battery powered trimmers actually become viable now? Last time I remember using one, it was very weak and the battery just didn't hold out long enough for me. Plug in electrics work okay, but gas powered ones have always been the cream of the crop. Until now?

I've only got 2 partially wooded acres, so I don't need much. It's great for just trimming the weeds and edging. If I had to attack some field weeds (or a field of PVC pipe?) I'd definitely opt for a gas trimmer, though.
Also, the 36v lithium ion battery would probably surprise you.
I guess it's all about whether it's the right tool for the job. For me, this one definitely is. Now, would I buy the 36v leaf blower for my 2 partially wooded acres? No way. I'll stick with my Stihl leaf blower for that.

I guess I can see where the battery ones would have an advantage - storage. Yours probably doesn't complain about sitting all winter like mine would :p

And.... the PVC was an accident... It kind of exploded when hit, as I was trying to mow around it. Really freaked me out at the time, lol.

I've had the same trimmer for a few months now and have been happy with it. The speed control is great. As long as I don't slack and let it get overgrown I can put it on the lowest power setting and usually get through my property on one charge. It's just 1/4 acre but heavily planted with many beds to trim around as well as around 125 feet of edging. And on the highest setting, it is more powerful than I ever figured a battery powered trimmer could be. I'd love to have a Stihl, but it is really just more tool than I need.

My only complaint is that the autofeed likes to go nuts sometimes, especially when edging.
