Hi

I'm looking for some pictures of Black Knife Blades that have been used and carried. I'm curious as to how many people actually use these types of folding knifes or if they are kept for collecting only. It would be interesting to see how they hold up.

Thank You

Id like to see skme pics too. Seems pretty rare. After a couple weeks of being new. I like using a black bladed knife and letting the wear naturally come along. I think they look great.

I've used this extensively to cut cardboard and so forth. No scratches. Whatever BM uses, it's pretty good. The line on the blade is a cat hair.

I've used this for about 2 years to cut cardboard, plastic, zip ties etc and I think it has held up pretty well.

This is after 5 years hard use, like abusive hard. I carried this when I was a firefighter, and house painter.

Pretty interesting to see where most of the knife's use was.

Yeah, mostly dry wall and caulk.....and I think I destroyed a couple of cans of beans on a camping trip, forgot a can opener. Things I would probably not do to a knife now, but this was my first real knife. Learned a lot in that 5 years.

I generally try to stay away from black coated blades for edc as they tend to convey a bit more of an aggressive, tactical message to some people. The one exception in my current rotation is a ritter mini grip in m4 that has a stonewashed dlc coating that is pretty unique and attractive. It's not a matte dlc finish and it's not shiny like black paint, but does have a sheen to it. Almost look like a gun blue finish in the sense that oils from your fingers will leave streaks of color in the right light. Being a variant of dlc coating, it is quite durable as well with no apparent wear in the finish even after 6 months or so of pretty regular use. In general, with coated blades, stick with dlc or cerakote. Benchmade's BK coating scratches pretty easily as is evidenced by the picture of the griptilian above, and Teflon coatings like those used by cold steel generally aren't the best and will scratch if you look at them wrong...

I wouldn't say my griptilian scratched easily, I abused the crap out of it. It didn't really start to scratch until I opened cans with it. Also, this was used every day for 5 years. The BM I have now is coated, had it for about 6 months, and the coating is showing no sign of wear at this point....but I also do have a desk job now.

Here's my Extrema Ratio BF2-CDS Pitbull. Ive used for regular edc tasks ie. cardboard, foodstuffs, etc. The scratches on the blade came from some skateboard grip tape i had to cut. That was one of the most abrasive things ive ever cut.

Ive also got a black cerakoted Benchmade 810 Contego with some minor wear, but its off in Germany for some custom scales right now.

my only coated blade was my ESEE 3 MIL, and I stripped it all of before using it hard, held up remarkably well before that, though.

I like the look of a well worn coating, it's like a different form of patina. but I generally prefer my knives without it.

I strongly prefer blades that are stonewashed so they don't show marks. I now avoid coated blades, even though the coatings like DLC are good. And I don't care for tiger stripes and such, but I'm older and more conservative as far as blades go.

I have yet to carry and use any of my all black folding knife collection.
It maybe time to start selling them while they are still in pristine condition.
I can see the allure of them but, for the extra cost, I just cannot get myself to use them.

I'll upload some pictures when I get home; I've got a black Tenacious which was carried and used daily for about six months.

But it seems like it held up fine. Nothing wrong with opening a can of beans with a knife every once in a while.

Some cardboard. I've had it a while, But I might carry it once a month.

This one I carried everyday for probably close to two years. It was my favorite ambidextrous knife at the time. I showed it LOTS of love.
