I don't know if anyone can help me with the specifics here, but I'd hate to join yet another forum...

Does anyone know a good rule-of-thumb date when you're safe from black flies in the Catskills? I'm taking my wife and daughter on their first camping trip ever on June 27th at North Lake. Is this safely out of black fly season, or not really. I'd hate to turn them off by being attacked mercilessly by the little buggers. I'd rather not reschedule to a later date if I don't have to. thanks.

I was up there last summer about the same time as you. I didn't spend a whole lot of time near water, yet I was never bothered by any.

Black Fly season starts in early May in the Adirondacks and usually tapers off by end of June. I'd imagine that in the Catskills everything starts about 2 weeks earlier...so end of June should be ok. I didn't think they were so bad in the Catskills...they can get really bad in the Adirondacks though.
