wow in before they are all picked over this time....if I had not just acquired 6 HI blades in the last 5 or so days I'd be all over the FF and Chitlangi....Good stuff today!

Grats to all who scores!

EMS on the Katunje. I need another work horse.

The lady says the Katunje decided I was worthy enough to relocate to Corn patch. Lucky me.

Scara, a second Katunje was needed because my first one is getting pretty scuffed up and it is a rather special one for me. It just plain gets used--a lot more than I ever thought it would. The handle is small and fits my hand like it's not there and I never think about it being in my hand while I'm working. It's like an extension of my body. It's not for big work as it's not an M-43 or a brush hog, but I've actually thought about getting a third to keep in my truck. I just like and admire the little beasties. Bawanna likes his, too. It would surprise me if you got one and didn't like it.

My Katunje is very special to me and I'm forever grateful that Bookie thunk it up and had the back engraved when it was made. I've only used mine very gently but as I've said before it's capable of much more than one would think possible.

Now why'd you have to go and say a thing like that? Now you've forced me to add a Katunje to my list. So let's see, a lightweight Hanshee, an M43, a Katunje, and others that I can't recall at the moment. And of course a friend has asked me to keep my eyes open for a Cherokee Rose with the full guard for him.

And I would be surprised too. Of all my kukris, the only one I don't love is my Sirupati. The balance is a little further forward than I prefer. However, I just spent some time with all my full-sized kukris, and I noticed something with my Yek Chirra that I then tried with my Siru. I'd been in the habit of putting a lot of bicep into my swings, but I tried loosening up on the bicep and found that the Siru and others responded better with a looser bicep. I am forever learning from my kukris.

Sounds like you got it man! You almost dont need your bicepts except to raise and lower your forearm. When you learn to divide up all the energy to all your joints and limbs then you will see how easy that snap really is. It really is like cracking a whip that dont weigh anything. Sirus are a little front heavier than you might think by just looking at its profile. They are long, narrow but do have a thicker edge profile and are not fullered for lightness like Chitlangi or narrow as Kobra. Expect them to be a bit front heavy and you will then benefit from their cutting power. The 21" and 25" Sirus are workhorses! Very fun to use!

Cool beans, Bookie. This particular Katunje reminds one of a micro Tamang in form. Very nice.

It is a little confusing to me about which kukuris are available. I sent Email and posted EMS on this site 40 minutes after the listing. Yangdu just now, 1 1/2 hour later, sent an Email that said only "It is long gone". I know someone else could have Emailed her before I did, but there is nothing on this site and she said it was 'Long gone.'

You actually posted EMS 12+ hours after the thread was posted. As for what is left, you just have to send an email and see if its still available. Not everyone who sends emails posts here.

Yangdu is a very busy lady especially right now, time of year, her helper Kanchhi gone to Nepal and helping her father.
It's quite common for the thread not to be updated. Actually it's always been that way.

I know the heartbreak of long gone and often times these knives especially ones like being posted recently are gone in minutes.....

I actually make a conscious effort to be one of the first after she post and more often than not there are 5 or 6 or more post before I see it.

Kind of like the lottery.

It never hurts to ask about another being available however Yangdu usually will let you know that along with the long gone.

Opposite ends of the human emotions. Done Deal=Happy Dance / Long Gone=Depression and Sadness. This usually clears up in a week or so, lord knows I've suffered it a few times myself.

Good eye Pyro, I didn't note that, this thread was started last evening at 8 or so.

Nor is the thread kept up to date with "SOLD" next to the items, best way to see if an item is available:

1. See if there is a "sold" next to the item or not
2. Check the thread and see if anyone posted an EMS
3. Send an email to himimp@aol.com anyway, because the item could still be available, or auntie might have another.

Hope that helps

Yangdu uses the expressions Done Deal and Long Gone pretty much like Yes and No. "Long Gone" doesn't really mean that the knife was sold a long time ago. You might have missed out by 1 minute or (as pyro008 points out) 12 hours ago.

Even if you did email Yangdu 1.5 hours after the posting, that is a long time for a DOTD. Some of them are snapped up within the first few minutes. Occasionally a DOTD lingers for a day or two, but that's unusual.

Each of you are correct. Of course I should not have posted, but again each response was right and without tearing me apart. I appreciate your responses because it reminds me how special and knife people and especially HI people. Please forgive my unjustified outburst. Thank you all.

We understand. Losing out on one of these deals is especially painful, because of how awesome they are. Just remember that Auntie and the rest of the (Small!!) HI team are some of the most standup people I've met, and they are simply doing the jobs of a staff twice their size. I've felt the sting of "long gone" as well, and got mad at the implication that I was "slow", but it's not personal, and from the harried, fast-paced point of view of someone who is receiving 50 emails+ an hour, your email "ems sent" IS very late because there's 10+emails between the winning email and yours. Perspective perspective.

Besides, aside from people like Bawanna :p, everyone here is a great person, so you shouldn't feel bad because someone good got it besides you. (Yes dad Bawanna, I'm picking a post black-friday grudge against you, because I imagined you took the last bit of cranberry and the perfect turkey leg before I could).

I type terribly slow and this reply ended coming out AFTER the last two, so it sounds not as advice, but as a nose rubbing. Sorry for that. Mrs. Martino is pretty much a one girl show. She is CEO of the company in Reno, but she is also the secretary, treasurer, shipping & legal departments, janitorial services, chief cook and bottle washer to name just a few of the rest of her HI positions. She is a busy woman. Family illnesses, which you have not heard about, have been eating up a bunch of her spare time the past few days. These all contribute to short replies to emails and the reason the khukuris on the DOTD not all getting marked SOLD. She is an honorable lady who does the best she can. Because of her personal beliefs, business sometimes gets conducted to the detriment of HI. She gives customers the benefit of the doubt and some simply take advantage of her and her generosity. That simply comes out of her own pocket book. Seldom will you hear a negative out of her, even if she is bending over backwards to help you. So, please don't get miffed. Do as has been suggested earlier, if you don't win the DOTD, simply ask her if she might have another. You just might find yourself one happy camper. Sorry for the long tirade, but Mrs. Martino, whom I've never met in person, has my total respect as a 1st class business and upstanding human being. 'Nuff said.
