I was too late to get this Seax but Yangdu has another one like it, so I got that.

Yangdu sent me the twin brother to the above-pictured giant Seax. The length, weight, handle and sheath are identical.

I already had a shorter, slimmer Seax by Sher, but this one is a whole different animal. Solid, beefy, feels like it would be equally good chopping tree limbs or hacking through shields. The sheath is as good as it looks in Yangdu's picture. Nice thick leather, and holds the blade very securely. It slides in and out with no trouble (one of the benefits of a straight blade), but I can hold the sheath upside down and shake it, and the blade stays put (even without the handle strap).

The only problem was that the pointy tip of the blade was bent to one side, maybe 15 degrees. I figured the tips of HI blades are relatively soft steel, so I gave it a dozen or so hard, sideways wacks against a chunk of flat wood and that straightened it out. Although not as hard as the edge, that tip is plenty strong. I had to wack it real hard quite a few times to straighten it.

I almost forgot to mention: The bolster and buttcap are both steel. Another plus.

This knife is extremely well made and absolutely beautiful. I love the length and the weight. The sheath is very heavy duty as described above. I must say, it did not fit my small hands very well. The profile of the handle is much thicker than it is when viewing from the spine. To my small hand it felt like holding onto a stick of deodorant or something similarly shaped. I can definitely see why others love it though. Yangdu was kind enough to let me send it back for store credit. Top notch customer service as always! If you have big mitts send her an email. It might still be available.

I know Steve Tall has huge hands, only one I know for sure.

I've reduced a few handles, I have small hands, most fit me just perfect but once in awhile a big one arrives.
I just try to keep the original lines so it looks the same only smaller.

It's sometimes not easy, I don't know how those kami's do such a beautiful job making those handles.
They got some kind of magic skills.
Reducing isn't near as hard as making them from scratch. Tried that a few times and my results were sorely lacking.
But I refuse to give up.
