Black Gunk on Spacer

Hi there, I just purchased my first Sebenza, barely used, off of these forums. On the rearmost spacer, opposite of the pivot, there is some black gunk. It almost seems as if there was a lanyard installed that was then cut off and burned. I'm not certain though, and don't want to try to pull it off if it's supposed to be there.

What do you think? Is this normal? Should I just try to pull it off / out with some pliers?

That looks like what is left of the lanyard, you can take the sebenza apart and remove it..it is threaded into a hole in the blue pin..
 
I believe some donthat to keep it from rattling if you fully remove the lanyard from the hole.

It also keeps it from falling out as the lanyard is all that holds that part in place. I do the same to any that I am not using a lanyard on.
