  A friend sent a piece of wood that was labeled black ivory. Is it another name for blackwood? Thanks.

Well that was helpful Mike :D

Black Ivory comes from the Black Elephant Tree. It is very rare and only found in the Great Sahara Forest. :footinmou Well that's what I heard anyway :(

I've got a couple blocks of it from Celia VanWyck at African Supply last March. It's called African Black Ivory and it's pretty much the same as pink ivory just alot more rare. Works pretty much the same too. I'm using one block on a small damascus dagger for the Blade show. It's a wood that only a village shaman can cut on a certain day and a certain time of year type wood.

:) Mike and Peter, let's slack up on the whatever your drinking. George, you need to quit inhaling fumes from the pepper sauce. J, do you have a web address for African Supply?
Tom

Hey Tom, I don't have a web site. They were having trouble there but, here's Celia's number (203-956-9289). Just give her a call. She'll also be at the Stamford, CT show this weekend.

My grandfather was a lumberjack in the Great Sahara Forest. He was one of the best lumberjacks of his time. That's why they now call it the Great Sahara Desert.
