Is it possible to dye an Izula scale black, in some way that will not leave trace on your hand.. the original color is great with my OD Izu, but would like the Black Izu to have a black scale.

1) Dye
2) Dirt.. getting it dirty, soaking it in mud, i dont know..
3) Sharpie

I can't seem to find the thread that was talking about it (even with google "site:" option).

Anyone succeeded ?

I would try warm/hot water with RIT dye and a little liquid soap in it. Submerge it for around 30 min. If it doesn't work, it certainly won't hurt anything.

I've heard good things about the RIT method, and hoopster is right, hot water and a little soap is the key, it helps the dye penetrate the fibers.

I've used leather dye with similar results, but its the expensive way to go, I just happen to have it all over the place. ;)

I would recommend the Rit dye and go about it that way. I've used that stuff to dye all sorts of things and it works great, plus it's simple to use.

thanks for the advice.. i'll try to find that RIT Dye around here (Canada) for the test.

RIT is just a water based fabric dye here in the states.
It can be found in dry or liquid form at discount stores like Wal-Mart and many pharmacies as well by the laundry soap.
If you don't have that brand available, I'm sure there's something similar.
If you really can't find it, try a craft store, leather shop, shoe repair shop, etc... and see if they have a small bottle of spirit dye (Fiebings comes to mind) for less than $5.
