Hi Guy's,

I recently purchased the above and it is in mint condition, I purchased thinking of using it as a camp axe but now that i have it i'm not so sure i want to use it as there are not a lot of them around let alone one like mine that does not even appear to have sharpened what your thought's keep it stashed away or use it?

I tend to lean the collector direction. I would set it aside unless I really-really wanted to use it

I don't buy anything I don't intend to use but I'm also not a collector of anything. So, whichever floats your boat. And this thread is worthless without pics.:D

I was curious and found this:

"This is an original Blackjack Viking Raider Axe in factory mint condition, in the original box, and with a mint sheath. It is marked: "Blackjack Knives/Japan/Viking Raider" and with the Blackjack logo. The axe measures 15" overall; the head measures 7"x 5". As you know, this axe is long out of production. This one is discussed in a letter from Mike Stewart, Past President of Blackjack. is an exerpt from that letter: "...Congratulations on getting these knives from Steve Dick and Chuck Karwan! T are some very unusual Blackjacks in this lot... is the list of your knives and my comments... The Viking Raider Axe is one Ken Warner and I designed. The handle is the "Marauder" handle, which we used on a lot of different products. The Japanese manufacturer already had the handle tooling, so we used it. The Viking Raider was a big success, the only reason we discontinued them was because we stopped making knives in Japan [Blackjack stopped manufacturing in Japan in 1991--Ed.] The total production of the Viking Raider Axe was about 1500-2000 pieces...Again, thanks, Joe, for letting me play with some of the knives I made years ago; some of the ones you have are very rare! Sincerely, Mike Stewart, Past President, Blackjack/Ek." As you know, Blackjack closed its doors in 1997, never to reopen them. And this original Viking Raider axe was discontinued long before that time..."
