is it just me or does anyone else want to start seeing emersons with black liners. so like a cqc 7 with black blade handle and liners. maybe call it the black out series.

I've been thinking about picking up a Kryptek Christmas Emerson in BT and having the liners cerakoted black.

It would be fairly easy to have it done yourself. I had the liners anodized black on a *7* I used to have.

I don't have It anymore to take pics, but it looked very nice.

What is the process Emerson uses to make blades black? Would that process be suitable for the liners as well?

Some customs are all blacked out, I believe Ernie uses Cerakote.

Bill Yester has used GunKote on some of his work.

Nathawut does PVD coating on some of his work.

I'd definitely like to see some all black production knives come out. I was going to Cerakote a 7 all black, but somebody cleaned out the fridge and tossed the half jar of Cerakote that I had left. Just haven't felt like spending the money for more, and I've got other projects that need to be finished.

Which Cerakote would be the best match for Emerson? They appear to have three blacks: graphite black, armor black, and gloss black. Gloss is obviously out. Armor is "our flattest black ever, almost a chalky black," and graphite is "our most popular satin black".

Might be graphite.

Not black, but also not bad

One of those all black CQC-6 models came up for sale on the green forum recently. I was going to pick it up but I didn't have an extra $6500 laying around.

Is it the opinion of EmersonRep that ceracoating your liners would void the warranty?

I would hope that since it's just paint, it would not affect the warranty, unless you had some problem that was caused directly by the painting (early lockup or messed up pivot due to the additional material present, I'm reaching to figure out what could possibly go wrong).

MatthewSB, this is from Emersons Website regarding warranty -

*WE DO NOT DO SERVICE, WARRANTY WORK OR SHARPEN ANY KNIVES THAT HAVE BEEN CUSTOMIZED OR ALTERED OUTSIDE OF OUR FACTORY AND OR WERE NOT MANUFACTURED BY EMERSON KNIVES, INC.

I think I used the graphite black. I refinished 2 1911s with it and I'd say the finish is a touch more matte than the black coating on the EKI black blades.
