Just got a used Gerber Silver Knight,(one of the later bigger ones) $12.99 on EBay + $2 S&H. Still a great deal in my book.

This Knife was a little rough, like it had sat in someones glovebox with out being cleand after being used.

The brass was all gunky and black, the MOP looked dull, the blade was in good shape, just dirty, and a little scratched, the bolsters were black.

15 minutes later and it looked like new, you couldn't buy this knife for 5 X what I paid, so yes Virginia there are still some good deals out there.:)

One last question, I just "hand rubbed the MOP clean, what could I use to bring out the luster in the scales?

What the heck is "MOP"?
Mother Of Pearl.

Sounds like a helluva deal, T.--any pics? Don't know how to bring out the luster--I would assume you just buff it? I'd be interested to know about this as well since it's my favorite insert/handle material.

Mother Of Pearl, the more technically correct way to describe what we normally refer to as just "pearl".

Edit: Oops, ZG beat me to the punch.

Some one on another site just suggested rubbing it with Sea Salt, I guess if it's powdered and mixed to a light paste what the hell it's what mother nature used with a sprinkling of sand I suppose.

Zen, I'll post some picks when my daughter returns from VT with my digital camera, in about a week and a half,(should use this excuse to buty a new digital);)

It looks kinda like this:

Now that it's been brought up, I'll through in my $.02, cuz that's about what it's worth.
It annoys me when I see MOP called Pearl.
I mean, pearls are pearls, and MOP is MOP.
Sorry if anyone found this post pointless and stupid.
