Anyone ever use this wood before? I was talking to a bow maker today and saw his shop and also snagged a big box of scraps. Lots of cocobolo. Ill take pics of all the wood scraps in case yall are interested in some of it. I know there is some yellow heart too. But I'm really curious about the black locus wood. Anyone have pics of a knife with the wood?

Black Locust is in the same family of wood as KOA. Works great and takes a great polish. I have some very tight fiddleback Black Locust as well as Koa.

Here's a pic of a Koa handle

Black locus is evil  they're almost impossible to kill. I've cut down a few dozen on my grandparents property in indiana and for some reason never thought about saving any...

if theres any scraps of cool wood needing a home im game

I have a tree out in back of my home that is Black Locust and it is great firewood for the stove. Thats what it is good for in my book. --------Later JM son of IG. :D

Well... a locus is a point around which other data cluster. and black is well... Black. Seeing the title and knowing you're in Texas i was wondering if you were trying to find a good location for the good ol' boys next picnic/liquor-up + entertainment :P

Instead it's all about wood. I know of one chap who had a rifle stock made of black locust, fairly heavy but looked alright.

Firewood unless it has an unusual grain.
Jared - Yeah, that stuff pops up all over my place too. ROUNDUP !!!

You sure you don't have black berries? This is a tree, right? Chuck, I never new koa hand curl like the example you showed. See you in a few weeks.

Black Locust is fairly dense, medium/light in color, and stabilizes well.

Some examples of Black Locust burl can be seen on Alpha Knife Supply's
web site.

Nope, black locust. There are a few wild ones about and the birds (I guess it's them) spread the seeds. I kill has soon as I see one .

I was mistaken about the Black Locus related to Koa. It is Black Acacia that is related.
Sorry for any confusion.
