Black/M4 Contego with uncoated liners?

I just acquired an 810 Contego, plain edge with black blade in M4, and was surprised to find that the liners were uncoated steel. In photos I've always seen black coated liners paired with the black blade. (This one also has a coated backspacer.)

I have no reason to think the knife isn't authentic; everything about it looks and feels legit. But I'm curious why the liners don't match the product photos I've seen.

Was there a change in liner coating, or material, in the black/M4 Contego?

my bet would be that someone did a blade swap between a black coated version and a grey coated version. the grey version has satin liners.

is the hardware, including the pivot , body body screws, & clip, silver or black? on the bk knife the only hardware that should be silver is the axis lock, everything else should be coated black. whereas on the grey coated knife everything should be silver

All of the hardware except the Axis lock bar and liners is black.

The blade markings are consistent with my other BMs of recent manufacture: no "CPM" in front of the steel type, no patent info.

that’s interesting. i guess it could still be a franken-knife, and the person who did the swap changed over the hardware too. or maybe it was friday night right before quitting time at the factory & someone missed it on the way out the door......

did you acquire it second hand? or was it from a dealer or bm directly?

"Friday afternoon knife" seems like a good guess, that hadn't occurred to me.

It's new and came from an authorized retailer.

i wouldn’t worry about it being fake then. you can probably give benchmade a call & im sure they’ll replace the liners with coated ones if you’d like. on the other hand you’ve got a factory one of a kind knife. i don’t think it adds any value to it but it is kinda cool

I picked up a replacement Contego and it has coated liners. My first one was an oddball of some sort!

I will be returning the "Friday afternoon" Frankentigo ;)
