Just picked up a like new Seiko Black Monster on eBay. What a great watch! I love it! Time to sell my titanium Seiko (my old dress watch) and my Luminox (my "beater"). I see no reason not to wear this new one all the time! If you've been thinking about getting one of these, do it. You won't be disappointed. I have pretty small wrists and it's not too big. Definitely heavier than the Ti Seiko and Luminox (probably heavier than both put together!), but it's not overly heavy. I love it!

Yep, that's the same type of watch. I think they make it with an orange face, maybe blue, too, but black is really nice. Anyway, FWIW I bought mine for about $90 shipped on eBay, so the linked one is a little pricy...

anything to look out for when getting one? amazon.com seems to have a bunch of reviews (yah, amazon.com ... i know i know) where buyers have said that some watches refuse to wind after a while. i have had an automatic rado for the past 20 years and it has infrequent trips to fix winding mechanism (about 3 so far). however, it works and keeps good time between fixes for YEARS. should i worry at all about it if i get a BM? i hear the malaysian ones cause problems. anyway i can get one that has a better build quality? should i care? should i just pull the trigger on this relatively inexpensive watch regardless of place of manufacture? thanks! i need to treat myself on occasion since no one else will :P

I have one, but it has been running fast lately. I have to reset it every week, as it creeps ahead about three to five minutes.

I've had three of the Seiko Black Monsters over the years, and although it's a good watch, it's a shame that they aren't a little bit more accurate, and Quartz. I'm one of those who doesn't wear the same watch enough to keep an automatic watch wound-up and running properly.

I have been wearing mine for about 3 years or so , I do have to adjust it every week or so if i want it to be accurate , plus if I dont wear it for 24 hours now , it stops , it used to be to where it would be ok to leave it off for 2 days without worry.

I wear it on the Seiko metal band , feels more comfy that way.
After 3 years of wearing it to work and in the shop , I did end up glass beading the bracelet.

I've had a Rolex Submariner and now a Seiko Black Monster. So far, the Seiko is more accurate, gaining about 4 seconds a day. Only the passage of time will tell how well the Seiko ages.

I have worn the Black Monster for only a few weeks and I wore the Submariner for about five years before selling it. Although I was disappointed in the Submariner's accuracy from the getgo, its performance did not change or deteriorate during the time I had it.

If (A big IF) the Seiko holds up similarly to the Rolex, it will have been about a 20X better value for the buck.

After one week of wearing it I noticed it was about 5 minutes faster than my other watches, so I reset it. So far with mine there has been no issue of it stopping, but I wear it everyday.

For those that are not happy with the accuracy of the black monster, open it up and adjust it! I regulated my Black Monster myself, and now it stays within 1 minute per month I'd say. Since I started wearing automatic watches I've learned not to expect it to be right on, but within a minute is plenty accurate.

I have an Orange Monster and I love it. It runs a bit fast, but no big deal. I wear for everything except timed workouts. Love to get a Marathon SAR someday, but I'll keep the Monster!

open it up and adjust it!

I didn't know you could do that. I'll have to give that a try, though mine is just a little fast.

Mine will conk if I don't wear it at least every other day. There is so much glowstuff on the face that it really glows like nothing else.

Got mine for a good price at overstock.com.

cheers

I love my Black Monster. I have no desire for another watch. Really.
Mine even keeps time well, though the Seiko "Submariner"(with the same movement) that I wear at work runs fast, and has to be set back a couple of times a week.

hi, Steven. Could you give us some details about how to adjust it? I have a Seiko 5 23 jewels and it goes 2-3 minutes fast every week. I'll be totally satisfied if there's only 1 minute deviation for a whole month.
