I'm sure this has been covered before but I can't find it. Trying to decide for my benchmade barrage. Which one do you prefer, and why? Thanks =)

Satin finish. It doesn't show wear as much, is cheaper to buy, and is also $10 cheaper to replace a broken blade from Benchmade.

this last year i bought 2 relative expensive knives. ferhman final judgment & spydie millie. these are the last black blades i intend to buy. satin will be my choice in the future.

I've bought probably a total of 4-5 black coated blades my entire life, and most of those, I've never even used due to the quick wear of the coating.

Hence, I've stuck with satin finish (stonewashed if available).

Either black or satin blade with the black FRN. Definitely satin finish with the limited edition blue scales (and buff that pocket clip!) :)

Hmm, I still can't decide. Been trying to find pictures of the black finished model that have been carried for awhile, to see the wear. Can't find much though.

I like satin best. Wear marks do not show up near as much as on a black blade. I also just think it looks way better. THANKS! Kevin :D

i always prefer uncoated, whether satin, bead blast, or even stonewash (my least favorite), purely for aesthetic reasons.

I like the look of a black finished blade with some wear on it, although I know that satin blades do slice slightly better.

I usually prefer coated blades, A) shows good Wabi which is something I like. I'm very much a fan of a well used tool. B)I spend a lot of time around water.

That said the coating on my BM mini presidio wore off in flakes, and honestly looked crappy from even my perspective. I know I'll be going with sating blades on all my future BMs and any other company I don't already have experience with.

I like both.
And I do like the looks of a well used black coating blade... But that's me...

Satin. I don't tolerate coatings unless it's DLC. Or unless the knife itself is so cheap that the coating might as well be free(American Lawman).

But IIRC for Benchmade, their coated knives cost more.

As some have said, the wear marks give the knife a character of its own, like a favorite pair of jeans, or a leather jacket. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Still, the BK1 coating BM uses for this model most likely will scuff or flake off pretty quickly. Unless you either need a dark coated blade, or live in a high humidity environment near the sea, I'd avoid it.

black blade in my opinion. It looks so much cooler with wear and tear.
