I was looking around on the custom knife section. I was looking at the black oxide black. I was curious what the benefits of the black oxide was. Is it worth the extra money? Granted it looks cool. I was curious if the black oxide was a viable option for a blade. I'll use the knife mostly cutting boxes and envelops.

It helps to protect carbon blades against rust & also to keep the metalic taste off food when using the knife for food prep. On stainless knives it's purely cosmetic for all I know.

It serves a tactical purpose. I carry my black oxide tactical folders as my enc (every night carry) it's non reflective so I can discreetly deploy it, without having to worry about scaring a fellow innocent night owl when they catch glimpse of the steel gleaming, if it turns out they're just drunk or approaching friendly (hard to tell sometimes on a desolate dark walkway under a bridge) . Mind you out of years of nightly walking, this has only happened twice. But knowing I can hold smooth reflective sharpened steel
at night and it's nearly invisible is pretty cool.
