I was first amazed by the beauty of Black Palm on the new WH knives. I wanted one of those until I decided I didn't want another WH. Now, True North has a Black Palm Mnandi! I just recently got an African Blackwood Mnandi, and I love it, but now I want the Black Palm one...
Is Black Palm the new favored handle material like S30V is the new favored blade steel?

No, it is not the current favoured handle material. As a matter of fact, there are many woods that are much more popular for knife handles than Black Palm. Right now the number one wood being used seems to be Desert Ironwood.

Black palm has striking patterns and makes for a nice handle on certain knives. It is however, not that commonly seen.

Black palm is very difficult to work with. You need to stabilize all those loose fibers. Found that out when I made a cane out of Black Palm for one of my Father' friends. If you don't treat it with Superglue, the fibers just keeps sticking out. But those same troublesome fibers are what give the wood so much character.

You're right about ironwood. I do see a lot of that, but I like the look of the black palm more. Very interesting on it's fibrous qualities and how to work with it...Thanks for the info.
