black, patina'ed or blue(able) handle fasteners? liner material?

Hi,

After reading this forum for a few months, I finally bought some 1084 steel from Aldo and various handle materials.

What I haven't found is the fasteners I'm looking for. Since I plan on blueing or giving the steel a forced patina, I'd like my handle fasteners to match (and not be stainless steel or brass). So far I haven't seen any blueable Corby bolts. Anyone know where to find some? Or at least some black ones? I've only seen stainless and brass.

Also looking for black shoulder bolts (the kind that use a female connector and two male bolts) for user blades I have designed in my head. Maybe I'm just overlooking these, as lots of production fixed blades seem to use these.

One more thing, I think Bob Loveless's book talks about the use of a liner between these slab and tang to give it a little color. I've looked through the various knife supply sites, and didn't see liner material. Am I just overlooking it or looking in the wrong place, or has it fallen out of favor?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I can't help you with the fasteners, but I think the liners you mentioned are actually called spacers. Spacers go between tang and handle, or between guards and handle, but don't serve purpose beyond appearance as far as I can tell, so I think that's what you are looking for.

The best place for lipstick I have found is here.

Lots of colours and thin sheet thickness's.
He used vulcanized rubber / paper but it moves with temperature and humidity, so G10 is recommended now.

I've never seen mild steel Corbys

You are looking for threaded standoff bushings (used with 2 screws)
Cheapest at hardware suppliers, but also available at most knife suppliers too.

But
Since they are so short, the handle width and screw depth must be fiddled with to get perfect seating.

Sexbolts, binder posts, chainring bolts have a deeper and more forgiving seating depth.

I would use threaded standoffs or folder pivots and black screws. Trying to blue or patina the ends of the fasteners once your grip is finished is likely to cause headaches.
