Sometimes I use a machete in order to cut fruits, vegetables, and meat. I am planning to invest in a new machete that has a black powder epoxy finish. My question is, does the black power epoxy peel or run-off therefore making it unsafe to use on foods?

I think someone has asked this already, a few times. Answers vary. Personally, I wouldn't want to eat whatever may flake off the blade. You never know what kind of chemicals are involved in the coating of knives and how they may or may not react to your body. Bad enough we eat pesticides, GMO foods, and potentially polluted drinking water without adding to it.

I agree with RevDevil. Even if the manufacturer says they are safe for food use, would you want to be the lab mouse? I would add that I think only stainless steel that has been thoroughly washed with dishwashing liquid is safe to use for food. Even though carbon steel knives wouldn't necessarily be less hygienic, if you use 3 in 1 oil or WD-40 on the blades, those chemicals are carcinogenic, especially over a long period of time. Any knife where you use petroleum based product to clean or rust proof should be avoided for food prep.

I think you might just have answered my question. So therefore this black powder eproxy has the tendency to flake off eventually?
