Black rifle confusion

I want an AR. The problem is that I want to build one. Not only is it cheaper, but the idea of building your own rifle seems so cool (almost like a Jedi building his lightsaber).

There's one little problem though. There are a lot of options out there. There seem to be a couple dozen manufacturers offering AR parts and to be honest, I feel a bit overloaded with all the information out there. So I'm going to take a shortcut and ask you, my buddies here in the Cantina, for advice.

I'm thinking of building my AR with LMT components. I'll probably buy complete lower and upper assemblies and then slap them together. I hope it's as easy as it sounds, if not, I'll have my cousin the Marine put it together for me. How's LMT's quality? I've read good things about LMT, but you know what they say about trusting what you read on the 'Net. I know I can use cheaper parts, but I don't mind paying more to get a better and more durable rifle.

If you're going to build it, LMT is pretty much the best you can go with for a direct impingement gun.

If you don't mind a wait, you can get uppers and lowers from LMRC and get one of their piston guns - really the most reliable AR out there.

I am a huge fan of the LMT Defender. One has been my go to AR for several years now. Thousands of rounds down range with no problems. I have one of their new Piston CQB MRP uppers on order with a new LMT Defender lower ready for it. I can't wait. It's going to be hard to beat LMT quality.

I can't get the whole rifle here in CA. I have to build it myself to keep it legal, with some CA-mandated modifications.

You can get the whole rifle in California. Try Lanworld.com

Totally great guy to work with

I've gotten most of my AR's parts from Olympic arms. Now before you jump to conclusions, I have never once had a problem with any of the 4 I have built from their parts. Well machined and all fit and finish has been great. Low priced to boot.

Not sure if you guys had heard any thing about there past issues, but they had a fire at the factory a few years back and they got all new equipment and that seems to have taken care of all of their old problems.

rock river arms is very solid. forego the assembly. most people that i know only get into building the rifles after after they get bored with the norm. the difference is like going to buy a car verses building one. only someone who enjoys the processe should make things more complicated than necessary. cost differential is negligible in my opinion. but then again as in arkansas; everything is relative.

have had the colt and currently have the LMT and rock river.

runs with scissors, i thought you loved that 50 cal. and was anticipating bear season.

I am very fond of it. Unfortunately, My Jeep needs repaired and I need to fix and upgrade some of my old guns, and I happen to be flat broke, and losing about $14 grand a year at work. I still may wind up changing my mind. We're talking about going shooting today, and my wife is insisting on shooting it.
