Hi new here, so bare with me if this has been asked to death. I just recently got my hands on a bk2 and am really enjoying the knife but I really want a leather sheath. Anyway, to make a long story short, I've decided to try and make my own. I never really worked with leather before, but consider myself handy. I've got the layout I want, I just can't stand chrome snaps. My local Tandy has what they call black, but they are more of a gray chrome. I've searched for these for days now, and I can't find where you guys get those flat black snaps in a what looks like a line 24 size. Thanks for the help.

For true black it can depend on how heavy your leather is. I use snaps (for true black, brown and blue) from hobby lobby. You could also find them in some fabric shops for use on heavy fabrics like denim. The shanks are shorter so the only work well in the #1 weight leathers. They are true black and so on though. Just be sure to get the snaps that will work with your spreader.

They're expensive compared to Tandy's Line 24 snaps, but google DOT Fasteners, they make the "Pull the Dot" one way snaps. They also make "Durable DOT" fasteners, which are basically line 24 snaps but in many colors. Again, a Lot more expensive than Tandy's but I think its worth it in some applications.

If you sand the surface of the snap down and give it some tooth and use good paint then it will look nice at first.

Some use will show how durable the paint is, results will vary by the quality of the paint used.
