I usually don't buy coated knives due to wearing off streaks or chunks, however I noticed the black Spyderco Southard has a TICN coating on every single metal part, from the screws to the blade. It should hold up pretty much forever, any experience?
I have had a great experience with my black Southard. I don't buy black blades in general because they just show wear IMO. For the Southard I made an exception. I have not regretted it.

As for the knife itself, it's a really useful blade that cuts a wide variety of materials with extreme ease. The hollow grind provides a nice thin shoulder behind the cutting edge which allows it to initiate the cut more easily than most flat ground knives. My kids find my Southard to be the easiest to use when trying to shave tiny curls for kindling.

I just took it to Colorado with me last week for a little adventure into the Rocky Mountain National Park.

I use it for all sorts of cutting duties. It has been used to cut a lot of small kindling and it's still not showing any sign of wear on the coating. My Southard gets more use than my ESEE 4 and the Southard coating is holding up better than the ESEE.
This pic was after 3 days of testing these knives in Mammoth. When we started the trip my Son's favorite knife was my ZT0562CF and by the time we returned his favorite had become the Southard...just based on using them for task after task.
