Black spots and pitting on tang

I have a bark river ultralight bushcrafter that I take camping and hiking, its 3v steel which I thought was semi stainless but i have these spots that keep appearing on the tang no matter how many times I oil the knife and buff the spots off. A few have progressed to small pits. I am wondering if the knife is holding moisture under the handles? If i squeeze the handles really hard I can get oil/liquid to seep out between the tang and the liners. Does this mean there could be more or worse pitting under the scales?

I would say yes, absolutely. I'd imagine that there must be pockets under the scales and moisture has been causing some unseen corrosion. I'd contact the company

Absolutely, the pitting will continue due to contamination under the scales.

Send it back, I had an early Bark River Mini Canadian that started to show orange peel and pitting on the blade surface,,, sent it back and they replaced the knife immediately.

FK

I would just use it as the tool it was intended. 3v is not a stainless.

Why i don't buy carbon steel knives with scales that aren't removable.
