Black spots on new blade?

So I picked up a BM 440 Opportunist today - this was special ordered for me, and was on backorder at the time, so this is truly a new knife. It's great (well, became great after I re-profiled the edge), but I didn't notice until I had already left the store that it has black spots on the blade. Anybody know what this is? Before the suggestion comes up, I've already tried a simichrome type polish.

the problem is if you become aggressive enough you might mar the blade finish.will they let you switch out with another of the same mdl.?

I sorta ordered this through the store like 4 weeks ago, and it finally came in on backorder. If I do anything with it, it's sending it to BM for warranty. Any idea as to what the spots could be?

I wonder if it might be some overspray/drip of the stuff they use to etch the logo on the blade? I think the logos are acid-etched onto the steel, so it'd make sense that it's difficult to remove, short of sanding it off (and I wouldn't do that if you're thinking about sending it back for warranty fix).

Well, that kinda sucks. I waited 5 weeks for this. It looks to be all the way through the metal too, so I think you're right about the acid etching. But I guess it's only cosmetic, so maybe I'll just live with it...sucks. BM quality control really seems to be slipping.

At the very least, it might still be worth giving BM a call. Can't hurt to ask 'em about it. Who knows, they might find a way to resolve it fairly quickly for you. Since the knife is relatively new, I'd think the odds of a warranty fix/replacement might be better now, rather than later.
