Black stonewashed finish

I am asking this here because the Lionsteel forum is completely dead. I am thinking of buying a Lionsteel M5, which is available in satin or black stonewashed finish. Lionsteel calls it "PVD + stonewashed", and it appears to be a DLC coating, though it's not 100% clear. Does anyone have experience with these types of finishes (not necessarily from Lionsteel)? I am assuming it would be a lot more scratch resistance than satin finish. I am also assuming that it would offer at least some added corrosion resistance, though perhaps the stone washing negates DLC's benefits in that respect?

DLC is not the same as PVD. DLC is a process of coating something with almost diamond hard carbon, while PVD can put a variety of materials onto the blade surface.

I'd bet that DLC is harder & lasts longer than PVD coatings.

PVD (particle vapor deposition) is a process by which a finish is applied. DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) is a type finish. DLC is applied using the PVD process (as are other types of finishes).

Lion Steel makes nice stuff. I have a folder they made. I would get the satin finish. The coated blades will show more ware.

PVD Stonewashed should be a durable coating, especially if the PVD is DLC which is what most quality companies like Lionsteel are using these days.

It will appear as a dark stone washed blade. First the blade is coated and then it’s tumbled in ceramic media which makes it look weathered and adds random scratches to it. So now any scratches it gets in use would blend in, and the coating is still present providing protection even if micro scratched by the tumbling process.

PVD Stonewashed is going to be the most durable coated blade as far as looking like new after use. I wouldn’t think twice about owning and using a blade with this process, if you wanted a coated blade.

I have a ZT 0801BW with what they call a blackwash finish. If Lionsteel uses the same process, then you're GTG.
