Personally, if prefer SD knives to be serrated.

Give me some feedback on the pros and cons of PE and serrated.

THanks.

The serrations on CS knives really excel at cutting meat(or flesh), but they're kinda fragile otherwise, and a pain to sharpen. In other words, they're great if your knife is intended for self defense or for use as a steak knife. Otherwise, plain edge is better.

I agree the plain edge won't do well for self defense...

I disagree. A plain edge if sharp and the right geometry can be a fine slasher. The difference between the two both being setup correctly isnt going to be an obvious fail and an obvious pass. Now unsharpened...with poor geometry a plain edge can be a poor defensive tool...but knives in general are poor defensive tools. Unless you are defending against an attacker with no weapon and you know what you are doing. A knife would be the last defensive tool i'd grab. A long sharp stick is superior. How do i know this...fighting off aggresive raccoons and other critters. Guess which weapon works at keeping their claws and teeth away from you and which doesnt. Granted people are different but a knife is an up close and personal and letting anyone determined to harm you get that close is a bad idea for defense. Yeah i know you cant carry a sharp stick. ..but if you live in a free state you can carry a firearm.

In ref to which, i prefer plain edges. Sharpening properly is much easier. Too each their own though.

Plain edge will be fine for defense, but the serrations add extra effectiveness. They however detract from effectiveness in other tasks. So if you're getting a knife specifically for a defense weapon(or for cutting your sirloin), may as well go with the serrations, if you want more versatility, plain edge is fine.

Did I really have to put a #sarcasm after my post?

Lots of people have made lots of strange, wrong, questionable, or off the wall claims around here over the years, so, yeah, without any indication it's sarcasm, why should we just assume it is?

I kinda did indicate with the ellipsis three dot trail off at the end. Didn't think I had to go the extra mile and physically type the word sarcasm.

And what kind of numbskull would ever think an edged piece of steel (especially this wonky design) is without a defensive capability? NO ONE is this ridiculous, cmon.

Lots of people use the ellipsis, including myself. Very rarely is it used to indicate sarcasm. As for what kind of numbskull? There was some dude who completely wrote off the 4-max because it lacked jimping, there's been tons of people on these boards over the years who completely wrote off Cold Steel as being junk mall ninja knives because of their advertising. There's been people who talk about how great AUS-8 is and how terrible 8Cr13MoV is(or vice versa), despite them being practically the same steel. There's been people who have called Moras crappy because it couldn't baton through a huge knotted tree limb, another guy once complained cause his knife couldn't hold up to getting hit with a sledgehammer...

Regarding the topic of PE vs SE for self defense:

There is a discussion with Michael Janich at Spyderco Forums about this as well. Michael Janich is currently working with Spyderco and is an MBC instructor. Just google his name if you wanna know more about him. MJ mentioned multiple times over the years that he prefers PE over SE for SD, and he talk about this and other self defense topic in details here:

You can find more by googling these key words: "Michael Janich serrated"

p.s.:
can we please stay on topic?

Well I consider myself a pretty rare guy.

LOL, I remember that dude specifically. It already has adequate jimping below the blade. He wanted MOAR.

Ok, I have never been beholden to greater point. Well stated.
